You will have to pay from $30 to $42 US (or 1500 to 1800 baht) for a Lao visa on arrival unless you are from a country that gets visa exempt.

If you pay in Thai Baht you will be overcharged by an abusive exchange rate. Pay in dollars with new bills and exact change.

It's a different price for every nationality. If I remember correctly it's most expensive for Canadians.
