Discovered today that Apple Maps on CarPlay isn't available in Thailand (per iOS9 feature availability page). Of course it works just from your iPhone but doesn't show-up on a CarPlay headunit here.

Anyone know why that might be...or if there is a work-around ?

Thanks.

Just discovered this the hard way as well Wish I had read the (Very) small print before pulling the trigger on this. Oh well. As far as I can see there is no workaround to this. But I'm unclear as to why there are no maps in certain countries. Did you have any luck finding out why? Or when we can expect maps to come online in Thailand?

Ford left it to the Aussies to take care of the Nav system in the Asia-Pacific region, hence that got screwed up.

Ive not heard/read online any complaints about the NAV systems for those using them in Australia. Or are you not including Australia as part of the Asia-Pacific region ?

Never found a way around this. Minor consolation is that when using google maps on iphone plugged into headunit, voice navigation will interrupt any tunes you are listening to. However, it rarely attempts to pronounce any of the road names here, preferring to stay silent eg take next left on to _________ .

Thanks for the thoughts. Looks like we're stuck like this for a while. Apple Maps does try to pronounce the street names but is underwhelming reliability...

Apple maps on the iphone is ok in Thailand - so i can't see why the map wouldn't be passed to the carplay head unit display ... i thought that was the whole point of it. Bizarre.w

Really bizarre. No idea why. Apple not keen to publicize it- very small print hidden in their site. I can only guess it's something to do with Thai regs. Any other ideas?

Well, I understand the Pioneer Carplay headunit also supports android/google's system - so would you be able to use google maps on the iPhone/headunit (somewhat better than Apple maps anyway in Thailand)?

Curious - because i was considering changing out the Mazda CX-5 headhunt which is utter <deleted>... but would be quite a deal with maintaining the compatibility with the Bose system and reversing camera... so i may have dodged a bullet with this one!

I can think of no reason whatsoever - it's ok to use a Garmin etc on your dashboard, or as I do a mount for the iPhone when I need to use the GPS... so what possible issue can there be except for general political/bureaucratic incompetence - the kind of idiocy that allows the motorway system in and around Bangkok to use two non compatible systems... despite both Easypass and Mpass using the same generic plastic doohickeys.

That's a good shout about using android for mirroring- won't have the gimmicky fun of CarPlay, but should be able to get there in the end Out of interest, don't worry too much about probe changing your own system re compatibility with your reversing camera and sound system etc. as the guy I found to do my install was really very impressive, professional and knowledgeable- fixed up two integrated cameras and could have done far more with a great finish (he's ‪ Sam from SFX sound on DELETED - PM for details‬- not much English but communicates well on whatsapp- got his name from these forums).

OUCH! I just found this out the hard way

had the Alpine unit installed in my car, andddd... maps sorely missing!! :saai: LAME!

That was kinda the whole reason I chose Car Play!

I will say that the whole Car Play experience is also very slow and unresponsive.

Messages is also pretty lame in the sense that you can't even read them. I guess I was expecting more of an "iPhone-like" experience, not a paired-down/crippled & slower version!

Disappointed!!!

You can run Google maps on a Pioneer headunit from an iPhone but needs to be connected using the HDMI adaptor and not through iCarPlay. Too much of a fiddle so I don't bother and just look at the iPhone. Voice navigation comes through the car speakers.

I have no other probs with the iCarPlay experience - control through Siri  works better than expected.
