Transport Ministry confident to resolve aviation safety problems



BANGKOK: -- The new permanent secretary of the Ministry of Transport was confident that Thailand's aviation safety standards will not be downgraded as it now has resolved several points observed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

This was expressed by the new permanent secretary of the Transport Ministry who took up the position today as the FAA will be carrying out an intensive assessment of the country’s aviation safety standards which is scheduled for October 26.

Chatchai Thipsunavee, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Transport, stated that the ministry with the cooperation from the Royal Thai Air Force would be able to solve the problems within the country’s civil aviation industry.

He said that the country was making preparations to meet the FAA inspection scheduled for October 26.

The FAA had listed 35 improvements to be made which included an increased number of civil aviation specialists and putting in place secondary security fallbacks.

After completing the FAA inspection, he stated that the Thai civil aviation industry will then have to pass International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) assessment.

Overall, Mr. Chatchai stated that he was confident that Thailand’s safety standard position will not be reduced from its past standing as 1st tier in international aviation industry to unfavourable 2nd tier nation.

It is obvious that the DCA has no intention of seeking "internationally qualified staff". Thais need no help from outside since Thais are the world's best at all such things, and the Thai military are the best in Thailand.

In reality, the RTAF knows virtually nothing about civll aviation. However, we don't need to worry about their command of English; all Thai students are taught English from an early age.

Instead of resolve, solve, irradicate, cure, etc. isn't it about time the Thai dreamers learned the word 'improve'? These babies are so concerned with saving face you'd think they'd be more cautious realistic. Instead they spout absolutes they can't possibly live up to and lose more face for the world to see.

It's not just this government, nor indeed the one before - not that I am excusing either of them. It's symptomatic of a deep malaise that goes back many years and will, I expect, see a similar outcome for the Thai fishing industry.

It's not Prayuth. It's not Yingluck. It's not Abhisit nor indeed Thaksin. It's a general inability to recognize or acknowledge the problem.

With a Category 2 rating, Thailand’s carriers can continue existing service to the United States. They will not be allowed to establish new service to the United States.
