Hungary’s Muslims and Jews see no problem taking in refugees

BUDAPEST: -- How will they fit in? What influence will religion have? Refugees entering Hungary by the thousands might want to move on, to Germany or Sweden, but the EU’s quota distribution system will restrict their choice. Hungary will end up granting asylum to some, with all sides needing to adapt.

Pistorius family: Oscar's rights being undermined

Illegal logging and encroachment detected in Surat Thani

SURAT THANI, 07 October 2015, (NNT) - The Surat Thani provincial administrative office, together with police and forest officials, on Tuesday discovered an area in Kanchanadit district that has been encroached on, in which several Hopea ferrea trees illegally felled .


Authorities acted upon a tip-off from the locals that illegal logging had been going on in the evening in the district's green area.

Officials found out that encroachers made their way to where Hopea ferrea trees are highly populated. About 200 processed logs of the rare wood were found; however, no culprits were reportedly in the area.

According to authorities, the illegal logging in the forest has been going on for over a month and the damage is estimated to be over a million baht.

Hopea ferra is one of the protected plants under the 2505 B.E. Protected Plants Act.

Govt units, private agencies in Tak sign MOU to build homes for the underprivileged

TAK, 07 October 2015, (NNT) - Government units and private agencies in Tak province on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on building homes for the underprivileged, welcoming the development of the Mae Sot special economic zone (SEZ).


Signing the MOU were representatives from various cooperatives, several saving groups, the Municipality of Mae Sot, the Municipality of Mae Tao, the National Urban Poor Community Federation in Tak, Islamic Council of Nurun Islam Mosque, and the Community Organizations Development Institute (Public Organization).

MOU cosigners agreed to provide assistance in the construction of residences and necessary facilities for the underprivileged in the province, to improve the living condition of low-income earners. The organizations would carefully and transparently develop plans and conduct surveys before commencing construction in line with principles of good governance.

Compensation money handed to families of victims in Mae Hong Son construction site landslide

MAE HONG SON, 07 October 2015 (NNT) - Mae Hong Son provincial administrative office and the provincial Red Cross office have distributed financial assistance to families of workers killed in a sudden landslide while they were working at a construction site in the province.


Governor of Mae Hong Son Piphat Ekphaphan and his spouse, who also is President of the provincial Red Cross office Naowarat Ehphaphan, presented the funds on behalf of their respective agencies and the construction company which is the employer of the ill-fated workers.

Three persons were killed on Monday during the installation of waterworks pipes in Mae Sa Rieng District. The operation was being carried out by Chuenchooprai Construction Limited Partnership.

The accident killed Yodoi Yokpiromrassami, Uthai Piyawong and a man only known as 'Yolae'. The families of the 3 victims each received a total fund of 85,000 baht.

Sea Gypsy Cultural Center to be turned into ‘4D’ museum

PHUKET: -- A budget of 20 million baht has been injected into the stumbling, soon-to-be animatronic Sea Gypsy Cultural Center, which saw costs of the facility balloon from 2mn baht to 5.4mn baht before it started to deteriorate into a derelict shell of a building that has become a shelter for the homeless.
