'Tuk tuk dress' wins national costume contest for Miss Universe Thailand

BANGKOK: -- Seriously, how awesomely tacky is this? Thai architecture? That's been done. Muay Thai? Done. Thai puppets? Done. What inspirations for national costumes do we have left? Right, our iconic tuk tuk.

Thais have high hopes the country will win the best national costume at the Miss Universe competition this year after the announcement today that Miss Thailand, Aniporn Chalermburanawong, will represent the nation in the 'Tuk Tuk Thailand' dress.

The dress was designed by Hirankrit Paipibulkul, a cultural scholar, and will be made with chromium and real lights.

...remember to agree on the price before taking the ride.

very creative, love itclap2.gif

Congratulations to Mr. Hirankrit Paipibulkul,

for thinking outside the box and the inspiration.

I don't think however that this dress has the potential

for winning the costume competition,

not for the lack of creativity or originality but for what it represents.

The tuck-tuck not only represents Thailand but also

the damage it generates to the environment .

Moreover, the writer of this article already announced

the winning of the contest as a fact and that suggests corruption.

Bad idea

Good luck to Miss Thailand anyway

Only six Thai flags on the costume...if they are only going to have six then they should be flashing LED lights. On second thought only three of the flags should have working lights to best represent the number of working lights on a typical tuk-tuk.

I'm ok with it, I mean it is not as tacky as some of the other eyesores I have seen in Takkyland, but a 10 minute "ride" will probably set you back 10,000 baht. biggrin.png

I.m OK with it even though it is soooooo tacky. At least the designer resisted the temptation to put 2 large headlights on the top front of her dress.

There are tuk-tuks in five Asean countries, and they are neither uniquely Thai nor invented here.

Thanks for sharing.

I wonder what happens if you squeeze her boobs?

Will it be "meep-meep"?

Or will it be "smack!!!"?

As long as the stockings are kept in for the actual contest she'll do ok.

and not one of you comic geniuses has complimented her on her headlights

what bar is she from?

Too pale skinned to be proud representative of Thailand's major industry. Tourism, that is. wink.png

Flashing light breasts would make for a better display/image

It's a lot better than the bannana leaf dress we saw up country a few weeks ago. Where are the tailor shop & massage parlour brochures ? Will she take you to the gem shop in that flashy tuk tuk.

...'Hirankrit Paipibulkul, a cultural scholar'... Hmmm.

Flashing light breasts would make for a better display/image

But flashing heavy breasts would be considered obscene? TIT?

Oh, I forgot to check. Were they on hi-beam or low-beam ? whistling.gif

Ha Ha Ha! It's a joke, right? clap2.gif
