France launches campaign against jihadist brainwashing

PARIS: -- To stop young people from leaving France to join jihadist groups in Syria or Iraq, the French government has launched a campaign of television spots to raise awareness. Family members of youths who have left talk about them, saying they did not see it coming, and do not understand.

McCarthy abruptly withdraws candidacy for House speaker

New tally in Saudi hajj disaster shows at least 1,399 killed

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The crush and stampede last month outside of Saudi Arabia's holy city of Mecca killed at least 1,399 people during the hajj pilgrimage, a new tally Thursday showed, 630 more than the kingdom's official toll.

Philippine Ambassador pays courtesy call on PM Prayut

BANGKOK, 9 October 2015 (NNT) - The new Ambassador of the Philippines has paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, with whom he discussed the two countries’ cooperation on trade, investment and tourism.


Deputy spokesman of the Prime Minister’s Office Maj. Gen. Werachon Sukondhapatipak said that Ambassador Mary Jo A. Bernardo-Aragon on Thursday had a meeting with Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha at Government House, who offered his congratulations on her appointment to Thailand.

Gen. Prayut told his guest that the Thai government has always stayed ready to cooperate and provide support to the partnership of the two nations.

The Thai PM also asked the Philippines' Ambassador to help coordinate arrangements to receive Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s on her official visit to the Philippines in January 2016.

In addition, he assured the Prime Minister of continuing collaboration at bilateral and ASEAN-wide levels covering all areas, ranging from trade and investment to tourism and military affairs.

Yasothon to debut walking street featuring Chino-Portuguese architecture

YASOTHON, 09 October 2015, (NNT) - Yasothon provincial administrative office (PAO) will reintroduce its walking street campaign in November, featuring charming views of the province's Chino-Portuguese architecture in Thailand's oldest clay village Ban Singh Tha.


The announcement was made during a meeting between government units and private sector on Thursday on improving the existing walking street campaign and promoting Ban Singh Tha clay village.

According to Yasothon PAO officials, the campaign is aimed at boosting the province's tourism by focusing on short-term homestay accommodations.

The meeting resolved to reschedule the walking street fair from every Wednesday to every Friday to Sunday. The new campaign will focus on sites of Portuguese architecture in 'Ban Singh Tha' clay village. The old town is currently 244 years old.

Yasothon's walking street offers event-goers local cuisine and local-made products, as well as religious activities at the province's revered Wat Maha That temple.

Yasothon PAO has emphasized public safety, sanitation, accommodations and transportation. Its new walking street campaign is slated for November.

Mukdahan holds Thongfah AEC Fair 2015

MUKDAHAN, 09 October 2015, (NNT) - The northeastern province of Mukdahan is holding "Thongfah AEC Fair 2015," from October 7th to 11th to promote domestic sales and exports of Thai products.


The Department of Internal Trade (DIT), Ministry of Commerce, on Thursday launched the campaign at Mukdahan School in Mueang district. The campaign, which is to run until October 11, is being held under the theme of "Moving Quality and Affordable Thai products to the ASEAN markets".

The event boasts more than 300 booths offering numerous kinds of products, including quality goods at discounted prices from the Blue Flag campaign, processed agricultural products, and Mukdahan as well as nearby provinces' signature products. Local businessmen will also have an opportunity to conduct business matching with 50 entrepreneurs from Laos. A business consulting service will be offered to individuals who plan on launching their businesses in the ASEAN member nations as well.

According to officials from the DIT, Thailand needs to have more investments in and business cooperation with other ASEAN member countries when the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) arrives at the end of this year.

M.L. Panadda attends seminar on power decentralization and national reform

CHIANG MAI, 09 October 2015, (NNT) - Minister Attached to the Prime Minister's Office M.L. Panadda Diskul has attended a seminar on power decentralization and national reform.


Approximately 2,800 officials from provincial administrative offices from all of Thailand's 76 provinces attended the seminar, which was held at the International Convention and Exhibition Center Commemorating His Majesty’s 7th Cycle Birthday Anniversary in Chiang Mai.

The event was jointly held by the Provincial Administration Organization Council of Thailand, the National Legislative Assembly, King Prajadhipok's Institute and the Department of Local Administration.

In his speech, M.L. Panadda said power decentralization is one of the key approaches to addressing various administrative issues and closing social gaps. Power decentralization can be done in several forms including simplifying complex administrative structure, refining local administrative affairs, and establishing civil councils.

PM invites all Thais to observe vegetarian festival

City to pay $6.5M to family of unarmed man shot by officer
