139264-imagepng-205531-wpcf_728x413.jpg

The Commerce Ministry is now sending teams of officials to inspect price movements of foods as the vegetarian festival is to begin in four days when traders often take this opportunity to raise prices.

In anticipation of the price rises, it will hold a fair to bring vegetables and fruits directly from farms to sell to people at low prices.

Commerce Ministry spokesperson Banjongjit Angsusingh said apart from price inspection throughout the country by officials from the Department of Internal Trade, the department will hold the “Fresh Vegetables from Farms to Consumers” event in Bangkok to promote the festival and sell low-priced ingredients, especially fresh fruits and vegetables for vegetarian consumers during the nine-day Vegetarian Festival, which is scheduled to take place from October 13-21.

Fresh fruits and vegetables will be transported straight from farms and the Internal Trade Department will later distribute them to four major fresh markets in Minburi, On-Nut, Ying Charoen, and Happy Land markets.

Maximum security imposed in South

YALA: -- Security authorities in four southern provinces bordering Malaysia have imposed maximum security measures amid fear of expected violence might be waged by southern militants to mark the establishment anniversary of the Barison Revolution National (BRN) tomorrow and the declaration of the new PULO movement on Sunday.

Security road blocks manned by heavily armed soldiers and volunteers were set up to check all vehicles entering municipal areas of southern towns in Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat and Hat Yai to prevent sabotage attempts.

Authorities said maximum security was deployed as past experiences have shown that southern militants had used the anniversary days to create violence.
