What does the Big C Card do?

Last time I went, I grabbed the wrong bacon (I was looking for the blue wrapper in the deli section ..i think harpico)...

Instead I got something that tasted smelled like dried fish and vinegar. Exact package..but no label and not harpico.

Got a 5 baht discount...but lost 120 baht. So now I have to spend another 120 for the right bacon.... I am 115 in the hole, and I lost my appetite for bacon.

No dogs at home? Cats? Soi dogs? Put it out in the soi. It will disappear.

My favorite in labeling:

On the front of the box in bold letters:

100% Pure Blueberry Juice

100% Pure Cranberry Juice

100% Pure Pomegranate Juice

On the back of the box in small letters:

15%: 100% pure Blueberry Juice

25%: Apple Juice

25%: Grape Juice

15%: High fructose corn syrup

20%: Water

Obviously Thailand hasn't enacted a Truth in Labeling act yet. With enough 'campaign contributions' from Big Ag it will probably disappear in the US and other Western nations too. (If it hasn't already, I haven't been back since you could buy a dozen eggs for around $1.20 a dozen.) Lol

You get 10% discount on fresh items (not imported) on Wednesdays. Also you get occasional discount coupons for future use, usually on the lines of "buy today for X Baht and get a voucher for future use of 10% of X".

The main problem with BigC is that nearly all the vouchers are written in Thai (and in stupidly tiny print) which means that I cant read or understand them. Given that they know who you are when you present your card, it should not be too hard for them to register a preference for Thai or English writing on vouchers and checkout receipts.

Well the 5b and 10 b,sometimes more, discounts are shown in big letters white on black square every time you buy more than 500 b worth.

Not that hard to work out is it ? and I cant read Thai and we are in Thailand. Amazing it should be in Thai,Chinese coming soon

Yes, I can read those ones and I've had thousands of Baht in discounts over the years. The ones I cant read are all the others that are just writing and apply to specific items or categories of item, and it's a bit annoying.

Not the end of the world though.

oH gosh ,its written in Thai , in Thailand of all places , disgusting , i just give it to the wife to read .biggrin.png

Re Big C's coupons, they are all in Thai language, but at least, the general future discount coupons that get printed as part of your LONG cash register receipt typically have the discount amount printed in large NUMBER characters, like 5, or 10 or 20. So even though you may not be able to read it, if you see that, you can know that's the amount of a discount for a future purpose.

The only other thing you have to watch for those is the expiration date, which also is printed in numerals. Usually, those general discount coupons don't seem to be valid for any more than a month or so from when you receive them. Because of that, I almost never end up actually using any of their coupons.

But, I also do like the Tops member card system much better. Every couple months, I receive in the mail a sheet of different general discount coupons, ranging from 25 to 40 to 60 or more baht, based on minimum purchase amounts usually in the 400 to 1000 baht range. And the nice part is, once you receive them, they're usually valid for several months into the future. Tops also typically will sent out a simple CASH voucher amount on those same sheets, that can be used just like cash with no minimum purchase amount required. Also can use all of those for their Tops home delivery online shopping.

Today I noticed at Big C that on many isles they had a square yellow badge with an arrow pointing downwards, but no further text.

The I noticed a few of the items with the badge I had bought cheaper last week.

So I guess it mean that for the products with such a badge you get less for your money as before.

I heard they are changing their slogan.

Where your money buys less every day, Only at Big C.

That's why I never buy juice who are not 100% or close to it here. I always look at the back of the box to read the small letters..

If you want real juice make it yourself.

Yes, Thai labels are fairly meaningless.

BigC will actually juice your carrots for free if you buy a kilo or more and take your own bottle.

That is why I like the Expat card....at Topps, I get a discount, everytime I use it plus using the Central Expat card you accumulate points. I see I have been wasting my time with the BigC card thinking was was accumulating points. Stupid they cannot have it printed in English also since so many of their customers are farangs at Big C.

I have a First Card that I use at Topps. PowerBuy and a few other places. I have the Thai version because my driver filled out the application years ago. There are some supposed discounts, but from time to time the cashier announces I have a xx baht credit to use that reduces whatever I'm buying.

When we buy something at Big C Extra my driver gives his card number and the cash register receipt prints out miles of discount coupons which he takes away.

Fine with me. Like those annoying stamps that 7-Eleven keeps handing me, I can't be bothered, but as long as someone is benefiting that's OK.

Stamps at 7/11 EZ some stamps are 1 baht and some stamps are 3 baht, just give on ur next purchase and employee give u discount, nothing to think about, last time u have to fill book, now just cash money

I always wonder why they don't just discount their prices a forget about the stamps.

You know how many Knucleheads Lose them, same as Gift Cards sitting at the bottom of your drawer in your home country...Win Win situation for retailers.

don't you have to pay for card at Tops or Villa, if it does that lowers the appeal.

Interesting! Is this the Big C @ Pattaya Tai/Sukhumvit? Do they juice them before you pay, or do you pay first? I assume this is done by someone in the fruit/veg area?

On Klang. I dont think the one on Sukumvit does it.

It's the people on the juice stall who do it.

Well you are doing the same mistake I used to do.

When you buy something and you they scan your card, when you get your bill you must look at the bill. In the end of the bill it may be mentioned 5 , 10 or more depending on the promotion. These numbers are the discount you have got. 5 means 5 Baht, 10 means 10 Baht and so on.

Cut that piece with the bar code it has and keep in your valet. Next time you do shopping while you want to pay give them those numbers and they will scan and your bill will be reduced by 5, 10 baht etc.

actually BIG C card is the member card that is most easy to understand:

shop more than 500 Baht per receipt - 5 Baht voucher, valid 1 month

shop more than 2000 Baht accumulated per Quarter - 10 Baht voucher, valid 14 days if I remember that right

the points are being re-set to zero start every quarter.

there are other benefits, I had received 60, 150 and even 300 Baht cash coupons in the past, that was when I bought expensive items (IT and furniture), but did not inquire further why I got that and what was the rule. I guess i had reched 10K Baht in one quarter or something like that.

Agree they could improve the provided information in English, but it's a FRENCH company operating in THAILAND - so don't expect much English....

Re the Villa card, AFAIK, they don't do a very good job of explaining or promoting it. And AFAIK, it does absolutely nothing in terms of altering the pricing that you pay in the stores. In other words, when they're having a sale on something, you get the sale price whether you have their card or not.

But, as noted above, your regular purchases accumulate points. And once you accumulate 500 points, that's good for a 100 baht discount off your bill when paying at the cash register.

The points total will show up on your cash register receipt at the bottom. And then, you just have to ask the register clerk to check your point total, and then they'll know to give you the 100 baht off. You might think their system would automatically give you discount when you reach the 500 points total, but AFAIK, it doesn't work that way. At least at my Villa here in BKK, you specifically have to ask/tell them.

Thanks tall dude. Now I just have to remember. I guess they don't want to make it too easy. That way they can say they give discounts without really giving them.
