Hoping to convert uk licence to Thai- Phuket or BKK?

Hi all.

Just wondering if it's still possible to convert from a UK driving licence to a Thai one without sitting a test?

Also, I split my time between Bkk and Phuket. Anyone know if one office would be favorable over the other?

Thanks in advance

Yes, you should be able to use a valid UK license to obtain a Thai license without taking the practical test, but you will need to sit through the hour + video and take the various eye/reaction/perception tests.

You might need to have a valid International Permit to support your UK license, maybe another member has experience on this point. You will need a Cerificate of Residence from Immigration, or a Work Permit or a Yellow Tabian Baan - to support address in Thailand.

No idea about BKK DVLC, Phuket is very busy, get there 08.30 in the queue, video showing 10.00,license issue after lunch.

Livingin Kata information is correct.

UK with valid IDL together with the passport copies and Proof of Residency is sufficient to change it to a Thai DL.

Medical certificate is required for this.

Don't forget that a work permit is only accepted if the address mentioned in the WP is your home address.

Ooops - I forgot to mention the medical certificate for first time applicant, also only a one year temporary license will be issued for initial application.

@ merlin - I thought the IDP was required. I did not have an IDP those many moons ago when I applied, and I had to take the practical tests. There is much discussion about whether IDP is required to support the home country license when driving in Thailand, thus I brought up whether required for Thai license application.

As for how busy is Phuket - I did apply for my new 5 year license 2 weeks ago so I am current on conditions at Phuket DVLC ...

With IDL i mean IDP, sorry for the confusion.

If my memory serves me right

IDP is required for tourist who are using their home DL in Thailand while on holiday.

Long term resident should apply for a Thai DL while living here.
