My apologies if this has already been covered, but I recently got hold of a Samsung LED TV which now has a new audio out port I haven't seen before. It also has a digital audio out. My old home theater 5.1 only has the old RCA in ports (red, yellow, white).

So two questions:

1. Can I get sound from the TV to the home theater with some special cable/converter? What is it called? Presumably audio out port on TV is easier than digital audio out for this?

2. Is it worth it, or will the sound be degraded by using a very old home theater system? The TV sounds OK, but I miss the richer surround sound of 5.1 speaker system.

You can connect it as you say with the RYW plugs.

I use the Optical digital audio out for mine but the speaker system is new and has it also, which is handy because it frees other plugs up as well.

Regarding sound quality that is something you will only be able to determine, but I would imagine having both optical digital connections will produce better results.

What does the manual say about the Audio Out port?

Is it simply a 3.5mm jack? (Ex link is a 3.5, audio out looks the same). In which case a stereo 3.5 to 2 x RCA will do the trick.

Thanks to Stoneyboy and especially this answer above from Crossy which solved my issue and makes me feel a complete idiot as well!

The user manual doesn't say anything about this and I didn't recognize the TV audio out port as simply a 3.5mm jack port! I thought it was some new format square plug jack which is why I posted question. So now I have simply connected sound to the home theater using a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable as the home theater also has an audio in like this.

Many thanks to you both for your helpful answers.
