A Week Later, Authorities Clueless About Who Caused Hua Hin Oil Spill

HUA HIN — Seven days after an oil slick washed up on the beaches of Prachuap Kiri Khan province, authorities have yet to identify anyone behind the spill.

Gov. Thawee Narisirkul told reporters today officials are still working to find out who leaked the oil on Oct. 27, which blackened a number of beaches along 10 kilometers of coast, including the popular resort town of Hua Hin.

The governor said his office has already filed criminal charges against the unidentified ship, and officials are gathering evidence about the damage caused by the oil spill from local hotels, resorts and restaurants for further criminal and civil action.

“This incident damaged the tourism sector,” Thawee said. “We have to take legal action to make an example in order to prevent this kind of incident from happening again in the future.”

Satellite images showed the 11sqm oil slick originated from a vessel or vessels near the mouths of the Mae Klong and Tha Chin rivers between Hua Hin and Bangkok. The images ruled out pipelines or platforms as the source but were too inconclusive to pin down which ship leaked the oil.

A Week Later, Authorities Clueless About Who Caused Hua Hin Oil Spill

...ever heard of satellite images....

...what a load of crock....

Amazing, how a little money can make things so safe. No problem, the oil is just a bit hard to wash off!

I recall walking down a deserted beach in the UAE, in a mostly deserted Emirate (I think it was Sharja) in 1998. Got tar all over my feet. I almost needed a wire brush to get it off.

I later worked at a Kuwaiti tank farm.

Crude is some nasty stuff in the extreme... They don't call it crude for no reason!

-----------------------------

Just as bad or even worse though is the retards (whoever they are - probably fishermen tossing all the plastic in the ocean).

Pattaya should have been declared a DISASTER zone for that reason alone back when I first visited in 1999, yet it has just continued to get worse.

I recall sitting on Pattaya Beach in 2001 (when I did not know about Koh Larn, watching a couple Thai teenagers trying to use a plastic bag they'd found floating for a dive mask (yes, one of them put a plastic bag over his own head - a true Brainiac). The kid came up for air & went WHAP! -mouthful of plastic bag!

My girlfriend & I LAUGHED our asses off!

Cannot see the culprit because the brown paper bags on the desk have blocked their view whistling.gif

"Satellite images showed the 11sqm oil slick"

I don't think an oil slick of eleven sq meters would cause much of a problem, but is certainly unacceptable in any environment.

This is no suprise and at the best of times there clueless

This is a outstanding example of the capabilitys poccessed
