  • Can't imagine them shifting many of them. Still though, number of genuine tourists affected, close to zero. Number of hanger ons that cannot get a long-term visa but refuse to leave voluntarily, lot

  • So, visa exempt entries or single entry tourist visas will be the only practical visitor visas. Digital nomads and oil workers not catered for. It is their country, but I feel this is a mistake.

  • Since most people will not qualify for the METV there will be few issued. Frankly, it is so bureaucratic I would never apply for it. Once the income starts to dry up and they see the fallout they have

So, the only loophole available for 3-week-on/3-week-off oil workers is now entry visa exempt through airports. This is tough for Thailand to prevent as the requirements for air tickets and money is satisfied. Having a limit of 90 days per year (as at land borders) is not really practicable. All they could do, perhaps, is have a red stamp on exit like "no visa exempt entry allowed until ...." that airlines had to look for. Otherwise, the xenophobes are winning.

As an oilworker this is a good visa for me smile.png

Glad to hear it. You are lucky that your job is based in your home country and you are willing to spend time there a couple of times a year to get the METV.

Yes I always stay a few days before and after my travelling and I also live near the Thai Embassy in my home country so no hassle for me to get a visa. I can apply before I go to work and pick it up when I come back.

Just a reminder.

The question now is how many back to back SETV's someone can get.

probably endless initially.

After a while 2 per running year.

Guesstimate.

Can you confirm that there is a possibility to apply in Malaysia from reading the announcement?

Or am reading too much into it?

I would not count on it.

The have only been doing single entries for non citizens or residents before. I think it will be the same for the METV.

Plus why would they say

No. It's referring to the list of countries here.

This is an old list of countries that had to be resident to apply for a visa.

It doesn't mean the METV will be available to any country not on that list. I think they've lumped the SETV and METV requirements together and not yet made it clear that residency is a requirement for the METV.

A lot of good people are going to get hurt from these rules that DO not work here and due to varying reasons, have problems getting a Visa.

Don't gloat over it as you are dealing with peoples lives. I do not like people as well WORKING on a Tourist Visa but then I know a hell of a lot of people that do not work, are good people but will be forced into a lot of heartache over such things.

Foreigners in Malaysia may have a right to remain there .

For example .A UK who marries a Malaysian would have a UK passport, but residency in Malaysia

Does This mean you can only get METV from your country of residence ?

So if the option of single entries runs dry from adjacent countries.

Must return home and apply in your own country for this visa.

Also hear from a friend today that he will not be able to apply for a third education visa, and that 2 is the limit before forced to leave.

You CAN apply in Indonesia as well

Most applicants are required to present 1 Visa Application form and 2 photograph, except nationals of the following countries who must apply at the Royal Thai Embassy in Jakarta only:

- 3 application forms and 3 photographs: Afghanistan, Algeria, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Central African Republic, DR Congo, Republic of Congo, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Ghana, Guinea, India, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Liberia, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestine, São Tomé and Príncipe, Saudi Arabia, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen

Yayyyy!

You can scratch off Indonesia also.

"From 13 November 2015 onwards, applicants with permanent residence in Indonesia can apply for the Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) at the Royal Thai Embassy in Jakarta, the Royal Thai Honorary Consulate in Denpasar, the Royal Thai Honorary Consulate in Medan, and the Royal Thai Honorary Consulate in Surabaya."

http://www.thaiembassy.org/jakarta/en/news/805/61987-Thailand-launches-the-Multiple-Entry-Tourist-Visa.html

As I suspected.

This is clearly something mandated by the MFA.

The wording used by those Embassy's/Consulates who have announced the availability of the METV is strikingly similar.

I figure all got the same text in Thai from the MFA, but had to make their own English translation.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

All that says is that people from those Countries listed cannot apply at Thai consulates in Indonesia, ONLY the Embassy in Jakarta

But why would they say that certain nationalities have to apply in Jakarta only?

Maybe they consider those countries to be high risk and thus want to do further checks that can only be done in Jakarta ?

Or maybe they want to interview those people .

It clearly states that only people with Indonesian residency can apply

Yes meaning Indonesians as opposed to the African countries list are able to apply anywhere.

Note as well that there is no mention of residency like the laotian requirements, in the list of things to provide

I hate t burst your bubble Kitsune, but this to me (above) means only permanent residence of Indonesia need apply.

The Embassy in Jakarta will refuse the vast majority of visa applications from citizens of countries listed.

These people are required to apply for visas in their own countries. This is nothing new.

"4. Nationals of certain countries are required to apply for a visa only at the Royal Thai Embassy or the Royal Thai Consulate-General in the applicant’s country of residence, or at the Royal Thai Embassy which has jurisdiction over his or her country of residence. "

Guys, do you really believe that all these nationalities are present in such high numbers as residents in Indonesia that they have to make a list for them to apply solely in Jakarta?

That would make no sense

Afghanistan, Algeria, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Central African Republic, DR Congo, Republic of Congo, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Ghana, Guinea, India, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Liberia, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestine, São Tomé and Príncipe, Saudi Arabia, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen

What about....(3) Copy of Temporary Residency Permit (KITAS) or Permanent Residency Permit (KITAP)?

And its the same for Singapore btw.

The embassy's have to cover all there tracks and by publishing such a list, do thus.
