Chiang Mai to hold Life-Extending Ceremony

Chiang Mai Governor Suwat Tantiphipat (สุวัฒน์ ตันติพัฒน์) and Chairman of Chiang Mai ‘s Cultural Council Princess Duangdeun Na Chiang Mai (เจ้าดวงเดือน ณ เชียงใหม่) co-chaired the Royal Life-Extending Ceremony to the elderly in the province to celebrate Elderly Day (October 1) for good luck.

About 10,000 local elderly attended last year ceremony, and this year, it will be held on October 4th at Suan Dok Worawihan Temple in Chiang Mai. In addition, Japanese elderly living in Chiang Mai will join the ceremony as they are interested in Thai culture. It is expected that they will form an international elderly network to participate in local elderly people’s activities through a Thai-Japan cultural exchange. In organizing such activities, all local senior groups help share ideas about the form of the Royal Life-Extending Ceremony in compliance with the Thai-Lanna culture.

Chiang Mai is the only Thai province where over 60 organizations are working to improve the lives of the elderly for more than 10 years under the name “Agenet.”

This year marks the 12th anniversary of the ceremony which will be presided over by the National Artist, Professor Emeritus Manee Payomyong (มณี พยอมยงค์).
