CHAINAT: People living along the Noi river in Chainat’s Sawankha Buri district are living in constant fear that their houses may collapse one day due to increasing land subsidence problem.

Land subsidence has been reported at five points of a riverside road in Tambon Don Kham in Sawankha Buri district. Warning signs have been put up by municipal workers t warn motorists to exercise caution when travelling on the riverside road.

But residents living along the Noi river, a tributary of the Chao Phraya river, said they are worried their houses may collapse or be damaged as a result of land subsidence. They suggested government officials to step in to resolve the problem on long-term basis.

One of the residents of Tambon Dam Kham, 66-year old Somjai Klaiklin, said he had to get up at 1 am every night to look at the river bank in front of his house after the road has caved in.

He also said that his grandchildren had been told not to venture near the riverbank for fear that it might cave in.
