BANGKOK: -- President of the Privy Council Gen Prem Tinasulanonda yesterday sent a strong message against corrupt officials comparing them to criminals who rob the country and warning that their crimes cannot be hidden from guardian spirits who are guarding the country.

The strong message from the former prime minister and army chief who earned the respected “statesman” status came as he presided over the opening of the first ever “Anti-Corruption Museum”.

The museum is located at the Office of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) in Bangkok. It is set to raise awareness and understanding against corruption among the people, especially the young generation.

In the opening speech, Gen Prem lauded the sacrifice of the anti corruption officials in performing the duties which could be dangerous to their lives and the opening of such museum which might draw dislike and hatred from corrupt people.

He described corrupt officials as criminals who rob the country.

He said corrupt officials weaken the country and makes it unable to fulfill its goals, adding that it is not an easy task to change these people.

“Corruption is not a cheating but it is a crime against the country. It is a robbery. We here are robbed every day. Corrupt officials take our money away and directly put them in their pockets. This money should have been spent on national development,” he said.

The new museum is an exhibition of anti-corruption cases from the past until present. It is aimed to help raise awareness and understanding against corruption among the people and to forge collaboration between the public and the government sectors in the anti-graft fight.

Thailand was last year ranked 85th out of 175 surveyed countries in the Corruption Perceptions Index, moving up 17 places from 102nd position from a year earlier. The country scored 38 out of 100 in the index last year, up by one point from 2013 and two points from 2012.

Among the 10 ASEAN member countries, Thailand shared a third place with the Philippines in the index, behind Singapore and Malaysia, the least and the second least corrupt countries in the region. Cambodia and Myanmar scored the lowest in the region.

Please, tell that to the current, inexplicably wealthy, former General, and unelected "PM", ...

Oh, wait, you were one of those, too... never mind... coffee1.gif

True.
These robberies happen every day.
Yesterday, today and tomorrow.

How about time for a change?
Order to pursue these robbers, noted in court and to impose penalties?

At the same time collect the loot and without that, this then lasts 20 years or more?

NO warning needed. Just jail them..... PLEASE.

Well now, If the guardian spirits were doing their job in the first place then there wouldn't be any corruption ,,so what were they doing?collecting money also? Can't trust anyone anymore.

ah those guardian spirits again who must have been taking a nap when the coup happened?

No not those Guardian Spirits which are active only at the appropriate times. He probably means the other Guardian Spirits. The ones on the side of the self righteous.

Surely you understand that some Guardian Spirits have a higher social importance than others. You must have seen some lower Guardian Spirits bowing and wai-ing to their social superior Guardian spirits.....

Well he talks the talk (unsurprisingly)... But anybody who gets to the levels he has risen to in Thai politics is almost certain to have partaken in some dodgy dealings in years gone by. I wonder what his assets amount to, and if like uncle big too in the PM's chair they can be fully accounted for due to legit land sales and having a rich wife coffee1.gif

Maybe it is thanks to all the Guardian Spirits that the coup Happened.

To put an end to all the corrupt and incompetent management that the country had.

Those guardian spirits obviously have a sense of humour. Because they provided the army to be the saviour from this incompetence.

Ooooooh, those spirits are a card aren't they. My ribs will never recover.
