Hi all,

Going to be on Koh Samui from December 22nd to 30th.

First of all I would like to know if it will be possible to buy Christmas decorations easily so close to Christmas so I can decorate our room. Are there also supermarkets that have a lot of imported food products that you would get in the UK?

Lastly just wondering whether anyone has any recommendations for Christmas day dinner or lunch where you get the full works like you would at home? Could go somewhere like Banyan tree or the Conrad but maybe someone has some cheaper options?

Staying at the Briza but not worried about travelling on the island.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks,

James

Stores sell decorations, but as to what is left when you arrive one can only guess. I am sure you will get lots of suggestions as to food choices.

Tesco and Big C where "overstocked" with Christmas stuff yesterday (along with the music which never seems to fit in here!!!! ) ..... there might be a bit of stuff left when you arrive!wink.png

Usually a number of places will offer Christmas dinner.... it usually gets posted here on the forum....

No turkeys for cooking though! wink.png

Judging by what you are looking for.....

Beware to get ripped off over xmas on Samui...have been here 25yrs+...gets worse every year.

Xmas dinner...Thais dont know how to cook it...they dont celebrate it in Buddist religon...just another way to scam you....plenty of farang bars do it..but you will pay the price.coffee1.gif

Decorations...yes...pop into a bar & ring the bell...that will start the celebrationscheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

Makro has trees and plenty of decorations and quite cheap too.

Be wary in Makro, a 7 foot xmas tree there is 1799thb in Tesco (chewang) is 995thb. Fairy lights in makro were around 300thb and in Tesco around 150thb for like for like.

So my advice get into tesco and also the 20thb shops have some half decent stuff as well.

Merry Christmas!!

I bought a 5 foot tree for less than 1000 thb and then a ton of lights and decorations and didn't really pay attention to individual pricing but the whole thing was about 1700-1800 thb. i thought that was quite cheap but i don't have much to compare it to either.

last time i bought a tree, it was a real tree and in hong kong and it cost several thousand thb or like $200 usd just for the tree!

For Christmas dinner I strongly recommend "Artizen - Tables and Deli" on Koh Samui, English Chef, who knows how to cook, free range pork, own Garden with herbs and veggies. If I would not live 200 Miles away, this would be my first choice for a super decent Christmas.

Don't know if he's doing the full Xmas lunch with trimmings, but Tropical Toe-Knees in Lamai (check it out on FB) does all kinds of mouth watering brit dishes daily and regularly posts pics on his FB page.

The best selection of Imported food is at Tops Supermarket in the Central Festival center in Chaweng.... it has lots of Waitrose brand stuff from the UK.

For Xmas dinner ... head into Lamai and take your pick there will be many, or if you fancy something special then book a table at " Poppies Resort " in Chaweng, you will need to book but details will be on the net...

Enjoy ?

Why come all this way from the UK to buy a Xmas tree and decorations spend the money on better accommodation and stuff the turkey for once , and go have some high quality Thai food, have been living here for 10 years and have never once had Xmas dinner I go for a Thai or Japanese spread much better than some shrivelled up old bird ! Pardon the pun !!!
