Argentina: the dawn of a new era

BUENOS AIRES: -- Mauricio Macri has been sworn in as president of Argentina.

The 56-year-old has vowed to tackle poverty, corruption and drug trafficking.

His predecessor, Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, boycotted the ceremony due to a row over where the handover of power should take place.

It is the first time since 1983 that a president has not attended the inauguration of a successor.

A brave new world for Argentina?

In his inaugural speech, the centre-right Macri promised to work for everyone in Argentina.

He has pledged to oversee a shift from the mainly state-controlled economy run by his predecessor.

The plan includes more free-market policies with an easing of trade and currency controls.

He also wants to improve relations with the US.

It's about time Argentina will have a government that is less Muslims/Iranians influenced and favored

by the out going 2 former presidents,

The new president vow to investigate the 1992 and 1994 bombing of the Israeli embassy and

the Jewish center in Buenous Aires killing all up 110 people, largely thought to be the handy work

of the Iranian terrorist cells imbedded in Argentina, Alberto Nisman, the Argentina prosecutor in charge

of the case was assonated, by what many believe, orders from high up, in order to keep the cover up

going on..

Good Luck as long as he has no idea of invading the BRITISH FALKLAND ISLANDS…….Hands off!

We don't have the Iron Lady now…….mores the pity.

So the bitch is a bad loser as well as a liar and corrupt. Love the way she says she leaving "no debts" - she refused to honor all those debts and simply wrote them off, which US Courts don't accept.

The Argentinians I know are honest, decent people who deserve an honest government. Hope this guy is successful but he's inheriting one hell of a mess.

Argentina is just another victim of failed socialist policies. It was once one of the leading economies in the world. Venezuela’s foreign currency reserves amount to slightly over $20 billion, while its total foreign liabilities amount to approx. $135 billion as of Q3 2014 (of which $11 bn. in government debt are coming due this year). Socialism anyone?

The Iron Lady was a disaster. She should have stuck to ironing Bill's shirts.

Don't worry about the drug trafficking, end the saber rattling that goes on with Chile and with the

British over the Falklands (anyone who has been to Argentina knows this Falklands/Malvinas thing

is posted at every border and is out of control. A distraction for every government and its failings).

Don't have any fire sale sell offs of any state assets. (Privatization only works in the USA which

has critical mass on competition. Canada now has the worlds most expensive airports, and

Ontario and the most expensive electricity rates in North America after privatization.)

Of course introduce free market policies and streamline business red tape. I don't care what

anyone says Argentina has the worlds best beef (Sorry, USA, Canada, Australia, and Kobe)

There is nothing like a huge (500 gram) beef tenderloin all the trimmings, and a bottle of Malbec

in a restaurant with white linen table cloth service for 10 USD. I do love visiting Salta.

Part of the instability in Argentina was fostered by US economic weaponry.

If deserved or not is a matter of debate, but the West seems to despise socialist policies in foreign governments simply because they cannot acquire control of state owned enterprises. It really pisses off the Cheney/Koch cabal altogether.
