Protesters call for end to British airstrikes in Syria

LONDON: -- Protesters have taken to the streets of London, to call on the government to end its airstrikes in Syria.

They marched through the centre of the city to Downing Street.

President Francois Hollande had urged the British to join the French in carrying out airstrikes against ISIL in Syria. He made the appeal two weeks after the attacks in Paris, which left 130 people dead.

British politicians approved the bombing of targets in Syria on 2 December. Hours after that approval, the Royal Air Force struck oil fields that the British government said are being used to fund attacks on the West.

People like this mystify the hell out of me.

I guess they think if Britain is nice to them they will never plan terrorist strikes in Britain.

Good luck with that.

I think that most of the protesters would be muslems

I think that most of the protesters would be muslems

Why would you think that?

Well over 35% of UK politicians voted against it in a Parliamentary vote and many more UK citizens of all or no religion are against it but they never got the change to vote on it.

Politicians in most countries quite happily commit the country and its military to war and that is easy to do.

Sadly for the UK it is no longer the great power that it was a few years ago and thanks to Big Dave Cameron and the Conservatives they have cut the UK military to the bone to where there are few if any available spares or resources left. They have NOT however cut back on the mini wars that the politicians love so much.

What is hard to do is to win a war especially when your enemy has no distinctive uniform, no country of its own and looks pretty much like the population of the country that they are in at the time.

If there are 50 people in a group that are spotted by a drone whose operator maybe hundreds or thousands of km away, how many of that group of 50 are terrorists and how many are not?

If you spot a known terrorist in that group do you kill them all to make sure you get the right one?

This might help if Shiny Dave's words were not quite clear (original article here):

Well bombing other countries has worked so well. I mean just look at the successes of Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, to name but a few.

Can't see the problem my self.

Well apart from more refugees, and innocent children getting blown limb from limb, and that we'd be supporting Assad Regime, and the fact it will only further radicalise more folk, and that these bombs cost big money..

I suppose there is always the danger that we'll bomb some Russians and start WW3 or some British Pilots may get shot down..

At least the vacuum left by these bombing will be filled by the 70,000 Moderate terrorists who have promised to be nice to any British Pilots that end up parachuting down in to their territory..

No it's a well thought out comprehensive plan to make the UK safer, and also we'll get our Mojo back.

Thanks Dave
