THAILAND -- Dozens of victims of a Ponzi scheme have shown up at Phitsanuloke’s Muang district police station to lodge complaints they have been cheatedof their investments in the scheme allegedly operated by the wife of a non-commissioned police officer.

The victims told police that they were persuaded to invest in the scheme by investor through the Facebook page of Boonyarat Poonnawit. The amount of investments ranges from 20,000 to 60,000 baht and as many as 195 people have fallen prey to the schemer.

Pol Col Samart Chuthet, the enquiry officer attached to the Muang district police, said about 40 victims had so far lodged their complaints with the police and he expected more to show up. He estimated the total investments might be about 22 million baht.

The officer said he didn’t know whether any policemen were involved in operating the scheme or not but he assured that, if they did, they would be dealt with in accordance with the law without exception.

He also warned members of the public to be on guard against similar cheats in the social media.
