On Tuesday Jan 05, 2016, Father Tao Tartaruga(Director) of the Camillian Social Center requested that a PCU staff member and I visit an HIV patient in Pattaya - we had received a phone call from one of our sponsors asking for help and advice in this case, given that the Camillian Social Center Rayong now has 20 years of experience in helping children and adult patients living with HIV/AIDS.

After assessing the patient’s living quarters and his state of health, including talking about his daily routine, we were satisfied and asked him to continue taking his medicine regularly. The problem here and in many other cases is that the patient feels psychologically alone, tends to get stuck in dark and endlessly revolving thoughts, and needs counseling in order to understand his situation. He needs to know that he is not alone, and to understand his medical condition in order to live with the changes. This particular patient has friends living in the same room, so he is not alone - that is important. We advised him to be active and not just stay in bed. This patient started taking his HIV medication four months ago and is currently losing weight. We explained to the patient that this is normal due to the fact that he has TB, and that his healing process will take up to 9 months and more.

We asked and received the patient’s permission to take pictures and to use his as a social case study. The Camillian Social Center Rayong has not only helped patients in the past twenty years, but also works to build public understanding and awareness of the living and social situation faced by HIV/AIDS patients.

Report will follow……
