January 18, 201610 yr I recently did a country hop and due to the IP change, when I try to log into the above it asks for verification. This is in the form of an SMS. I can't receive the code because I have a local number the number I registered for security does not work here. Any ideas? I have a recovery e-mail for both Gmail and Outlook but I can't get into them. Any ideas please from the tecchies?
January 18, 201610 yr So you have enabled 2 Step Authentication ?? If so click on this on the first screen Then you will get the other options to enter the verification codes. If you don't have them you select the last option "Ask Google for help"
January 18, 201610 yr Author Ask Google for Gmail as I've exhausted the other options. Cheers for that, big help. I'm a computer dork.
January 18, 201610 yr Yeah that's one of the disadvantages (and also advantage ) of the 2 step Authentication, if you don't have the codes your stuck. Do you see how many phones and other options I have enabled ? 2 Thai Numbers and 1 from Europe. I also have the backup codes (10 of them) stored in a safe place, just in case. Good luck with that last option as you are going to need it
January 18, 201610 yr Author Cheers. Very helpful, when I do get in I will review security, pain in the proverbial this. Thanks again.
January 19, 201610 yr www.protonmail.ch does not do this sh*t and does not spy on your private data either.
January 20, 201610 yr www.protonmail.ch does not do this sh*t <snip> This sh*t keeps your account secure and even when someone has your email password if they don't have access to the codes they still can't get in, that's why it's called 2 Step (or 2 Factor) Authentication, however there are disadvantages and one of them is what the OP is experiencing, doesn't have access to codes to access the account. Personally all my email accounts and other accounts (when it's available) have 2 Step Authentication enabled.
January 20, 201610 yr This might work, get a free trail for a VPN ip for the country where you set up gmail, wipe with Ccleaner and try logging on using with the vpn
January 20, 201610 yr This might work, get a free trail for a VPN ip for the country where you set up gmail, wipe with Ccleaner and try logging on using with the vpn I sincerely doubt it that it will work, the reason being, My guess is that the OP (after enabling 2 step) checked the box for "don't ask for codes as this a trusted computer" (maybe has other wording). Now the op moved to another country and gmail detected that and thus is asking again for codes. BUT Good suggestion and the OP can try it, but I doubt that it will work, especially after deleting cookies and already trying to login..
