Honda Platinum Px125.

I have just been to look at a motor bike. It’s a motocross style or scrambler bike. It was labeled as a 'Honda Platinum 125PX'. It is this year’s bike with 1300km on the clock. It looks a nice bike and has added features of remote alarm and remote start. The asking price is a reasonable 32000 Baht. My first issue was ‘is the bike going to be powerful enough’. Although I am an inexperienced biker and only plan on using it to go the 25km to the gym and back, so it may be adequate. I had previously been planning on a Phantom some time in the future. I think the riding position on the motocross seems safer than the chopper.

However, since returning home I have done a search on the net and can find no reference to a Honda Platinum PX125. I did however find a few old threads in Thaivisa referring to a Platinum 150 chopper style bike. No body seemed to have anything good to say about it. I wonder if this bike is not a Honda at all and actually a Platinum. If so I guess I should think twice.

Has anyone any knowledge of this bike?

First time I hear of this bike, but there are a few factors which should tell you to stay away from it:

- It's probably not a Honda, it's nowhere to be seen on the website http://www.aphonda.co.th/honda2006/products.asp

- It's cheap so it's not an imported Honda

- You have some doubts already

- There is a motorbike brand called Platinum with a reputation for bad quality

I don't know about you but I don't enjoy breaking down on the road and / or having to take the bike to the dealership a lot, so spend 10K baht more and get a proper Honda Dream/Wave/AirBlade.

I have a Wave 125i and it's been trouble free ever since I got it - just like it should be. Gets incredible gas mileage too. Not a single problem with it...

A friend bought an automatic somewhat roundish-looking bike just before me. Some unknown brand, I forgot the name. He was happy initially, but it's been in the shop constantly, in the first year. He is close to returning it and asking for a refund at this point (not that it will help, TIT after all and he's already had it for over a year). It's pretty clear that he won't get anything for it used and also that it won't last much longer than another 2 years or so before it has to be scrapped.

Its a Platinum, which is a Chinese bike. Somebody has obviously stuck some Honda stickers on it to fool you.

A lot of these bikes had many problems as when they hit Thailand, they sat on the docks for almost a year before clearance was granted for some reason.

This means that even when new, they came out of the shop with rusty exhausts, and a plethora of other problems.

My friend bought one and had exactly these problems, amongst many others, and even though the bike is a piece of junk, the aftersales service (in Phuket at least) has been great for him. Even to the point of replacing the bike for him. Needless to say, its still a heap of junk.

I’m going to give it a miss.

I noticed that although it was this year’s bike, with 1300km on it, there was some rust on the exhaust and wheel spokes. I guess that bike isn’t going to last that long.

I’ll save my pocket money for a Phantom.

you've probably saved yourself a lot of problems, the bikes look good but just like the jokers I doubt if you will see many on the road in a couple of years.

Having said that the phantom/boss are nothing to get excited about, heavy and underpowerd, a bike that heavy should be at least 250cc.

You get what you pay for! Platinum is a Chinese bike i guess, i just bought a new one for 44'000 Baht. It looks good, but it is not made for go off road. It looks not that strong to me, first time when i drove it the petrol tank leaking, some screws on the swimmer who shows the fuel level was loose. But that was not a big problem. The electric wirings looks a little bit small to me. Engine should be made from Honda they told me. But a real off road bike cost much more than 44'000 Baht, You can not get a Japanese off road bike for this price. The engine is four storke, with electric start. It is not so powerful, if you sit with a passenger, it just do the job. But again: You get what you pay for. Phantoms and Boss? If i like to drive a Chopper than i want minimum 750 CC, so there is better to buy a used Honda NV 750 or Magna. not even a Steed, they are not real Choppers.
