After reading so much info about visa changes I see very little written about retirement visas. Does anyone know if they have been affected in any way?

Hey Joe

I understand that no medical cert is now required and for NEW retirement visa's one needs income of 65k Baht per month OR 800k Baht in bank for at least 3 months (they review visa 3 times during first year). People who already in system can continue to use 'old' regs. See thread :-

I called Thai immigration in Chiang Khan and asked if anything has changed regarding my retirement visa. The answer was that nothing has changed and that I STILL need the medical certificate. My 90 day address verification is due November 8th and my visa expires November 17th. I plan on filling out the forms for the visa renewal and also the address verification and then see what happens. I'm hoping I can get my new retirement visa rather than having to go back the next week. I'll let you know how it goes. TIT! One never knows.

The new rules do not require a medical certificate and those processing in Bangkok have not had to provide but as the retirement is local approved guess you will not have a choice if they insist. You should not have any problem doing early, two weeks is considered normal and up to a month is normally allowed without any question.

I plan to go 1 month early and will post the latest at BKK.

someone told me that the retirement extension now is 65k/mth income (800k in the bank will not do, must be monthly income) and that you have to pay tax on the 65k/mth even through the money comes from outside thailand. does anyone know if there is any truth to this?

thx steve
