Shipping in a camera from hong kong

Featured Replies

Im looķing at buying a new camera (panasonic lx100) as the prices have dropped from $900 to $500 usd. No doubt a new model is close to being released

I can pick one up from ebay for 18,000 B with free shipping. All the other things i buy from hong kong or china have been duty free but i am wondering about a camera?

I actually dont mind paying some duty as the cheapest price i saw in thailand was on lazada for 24,000 and big camera are asking 29,000!

Any iďea on the duty on cameras?

I want it for an upcoming trip to NZ in march.

According to this site http://igtf.customs.go.th/igtf/en/main_frame.jsp digital cameras attract 5% duty, then 7% VAT on the CIF (Cost Insurance Freight) value. That would work out at about 2,200 Baht to pay.

If it's sent EMS you may get away with no charge.

Thanks. I did a bunch of googling and concensus seems to be 12%.

I'll check that it will be sent ems as i never have problems with the postal service.

Ask the shipper to send it as a gift, I got my used Fuji X-pro1 tax free from Japan because of same.

Yes try avoiding the couriers, there will normally be tax included when getting it from them.

I asked and the two from ebay will use FedEx or dhl which makes me worry as i have heard some horror stories there....

I'll be in saint maarten in about 10 days so i may try to pick one up there, it has a big duty free shopping area for the cruise liners.
