HUA HIN:-- Railway police in Hua Hin yesterday (Feb 1) arrested a man after he was found to be in possession of 20,000 methamphetamine tablets, commonly known as yaba.

The man, identified as Mr Taweesak Vechakan, 30, was travelling on a southbound train from Bangkok.

Officers boarded the train at Hua Hin station in order to carry out a routine search, when Mr Taweesak started to behave in a suspicious manner, which prompted police to search his bag, only to find the 20,000 yaba pills.

Police believe the drugs have an estimated street value of more than 5 million Baht.

Taweesak allegedly told police that he had been unable to get a job after being released from prison in April and needed the 10,000 Baht he was paid to transport the drugs to Nakhon Si Thammarat.

The arrest of Mr Taweesak and the seizure of the drugs is the third such case in what is proving to be a successful week for railway police in Hua Hin.

Last week, officers seized drugs worth more than 50 million Baht in two separate raids.
