BANGKOK, 19 February 2016 (NNT)-The Minister of Social Development and Human Security has assured the UNHCR Regional Representative in Thailand that the Thai government will care for refugees in accordance with humanitarian principles.

Police General Adul Saengsingkeaw made the pledge during his meeting with the UNHCR Regional Representative in Thailand, Ms. Ruvendrini Menikdivela, who paid a courtesy call on him at the ministry.

The two discussed the current refugee situation in Thailand especially those living in large cities and Rohingya migrants. The UNHCR representative expressed her gratitude towards the Thai government for the care it has been providing to Rohingyas.

The Social Development and Human Security Minister stressed that Thailand hoped to continue working with the UNHCR in the development of the refugee management system here.

Refugees are locked up in police cells or the immigration jails for months to years. So yes the Thai government takes care that they remain locked up and out of sight.

Be interesting to know/hear what the UN rep herself actually had to say, instead of the PR spin-itized Thai government version, where they're always recounting in the Thai media what OTHER government reps supposedly have said, instead of letting them speak for themselves

Yeah right and to think I had such a low impression of a apparently caring junta , just goes to show how wrong you can be , it really sends a strong message of how low you have to go to keep your presence in Thailand,.so that you can carry on your good work un - molested......................................................coffee1.gif .
