UTHAI THANI, 20 February 2016 (NNT) – Uthai Thani Province is gearing up for the upcoming visit of the Thai Premier who will be following up on the province’s land reform plan.

Uthai Thani Governor Prapat Malakan convened a meeting with provincial authorities to go over the preparation including security measures for Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha’s visit on February 26th. The prime minister will be inspecting the progress of the land allocation effort in the province.

The land reform plan has been implemented in compliance with the government’s land allocation policy which seeks to eradicate forest encroachment by the local people.

5 rai or around 800 square meters of land are granted to cooperatives so as to allow their members to generate income without having to encroach upon unauthorized areas.

eradicate forest encroachment ... by granting the land to cooperatives to commercialize.

And that changes what?

All local journalists get the day off and are invited to spend the time in a posh resort with free meals, drinks, dance shows and karaoke.
