LAMPANG:-- Police have arrested a man and two women after they were found to be in possession of almost 200,000 methamphetamine pills following two separate seizures in Lampang, northern Thailand.

Pol Maj Gen Prayad Boonsri, Deputy Commissioner Region 5, announced that officers from the Narcotics Control Board and Mae Phrik Police Station made the arrests on Wednesday after receiving information that a large amount of methamphetamine pills, or yaba, would be transported through the province.

Police setup road blocks on the Mae Phrik-Tern road and pulled over a silver Toyota pickup truck, driven by 42 year old Narong Sinchaow. Police decided to search the vehicle when Narong started acting suspiciously when asked routine questions. Searching the vehicle officers found 170,000 methamphetamine pills wrapped into 85 packages and stashed under the back of the truck.

Narong later confessed to police he had collected the drugs from Chiang Mai and was on his way to deliver them in Ayutthaya.

In a separate incident also on Wednesday, a routine search at another road block in the province recovered a total of 20,004 yaba pills. Police seized the pills when they searched a Toyota Vios car driven by Miss Sripai Wongwean, 29. Inside the car police found 10 packages of pills. They also searched the passenger Miss Manewan Mongkonchu, 29, who was found to have 51 yaba pills stashed in her bra. Both women confessed to police that they intended to sell the drugs in Chiang Rai.
