Taylor plays down Owls talk

By Peter ORourke - Created on 24 Oct 2006

Former England boss Graham Taylor has played down talk linking him with the vacant manager's job at Sheffield Wednesday.

Wednesday are drawing up a list of candidates as they search for a replacement for Paul Sturrock.

Sturrock was sacked last week after a poor run of form saw Wednesday slip down the Championship table.

The Owls have already been rebuffed in their attempts to speak to Burnley's Steve Cotterill and Barnsley's Andy Ritchie.

Reports suggested that the Hillsborough outfit had switched their attentions to former Watford boss Taylor to try and turn their fortunes around

Taylor has been out of work since the summer of 2003 after leaving Aston Villa and he is in no rush to return.

The experienced manager insists he has not heard anything from Sheffield Wednesday and that he is treating the rumours as mere speculation.

"It is all paper talk," Taylor told skysports.com. "There is nothing in the reports at all.

"I am very happy doing what I am doing now.

"If there is interest (from Wednesday) then it might be different, but I have not heard anything from anyone at the club."

I like ol turnip, I think he's one of the good guys and, would be good for a lot of clubs. I don't really understand why he doesn't get more offers, I'd like to think its because he's his own man and won't just jump into a club. A few more should use their brains like him. :o
