That would be the embrace of a contracting economy.

Not true. China's economy continues to expand, albeit at a slower pace. A reduced rate of growth is not a contraction.

Fair point by Ulic. I've always said that if you subtract from total GDP all the Chinese products that fall apart or explode within a few days of use, then their economy is probably flat at best.

At the first Chinese New Year celebration I witnessed in Thailand in the 80's, almost every business was closed including the Banks, Bangkok was shut down, and Chinese New Year was not a public holiday.

You don't need to be a forensic anthropologist to see China having a presence and investing in many countries around the world.

In Africa it owns and operates mines in many countries and gets involved in many infrastructure projects.

In Australia they are buying many large farming enterprises in the name of securing a future food supply. Many of its citizens are buying residential properties and probably without them the real estate market would have been a 'desert' over the past few years. Does that suggest they've taken over Australia and Africa?

Thailand embraces anyone when it is to their advantage. Japan in 1941 is an example. Thailand's relationship with China (communists) flows and ebbs like the tide. Seems it's all about what's in it (or out of it) for them at the time.

This should say that Thailand is slipping deeper into there debts with China. The Thais suffered greatly with the new rail system with the Chinese. They must buy Chinese rails plus a high interest rate. Now more unbelievable actions by this junta government. It's the yuan replacing the dollar. Having a Junta in place won't phase the Chinese whereas the west frowns on such things. It is true that the Chinese background Thais run the business world in Thailand but that is because they are good at it. I suspect that as China sucks Thailand in it will be harder to break the ties than it has been with the west.

Stranglehold ?? China now has a whole bunch of little

pieces of paper that say America will pay them back over 30

years. ( long bonds ). When the inevitable war between USA and

China occurs over their ambitious take over of the south China Sea,

It is just not Thailand it is also Laos, Cambodia, Iran and Pakistan. It is to be expected, as they offer cost efficient trade and transport. Next it will be Turkey and Eastern Europe.
