March 11, 201610 yr Hi All, Heading to Bkk in June and wanted to hear your opinions on overall cost to live. I always had the impression that Bkk was generally more expensive but housing seems to be almost a better deal in Bkk. For instance, for $350 you can get a nice studio or 1 bd with a gym and swimming pool from what I can tell in Bkk. In HCM, you definitely can't get something that nice for that price range. Any thoughts or experiences are appreciated, thanks all!
March 11, 201610 yr Central Bangkok you'll get a decent enough studio apt for 12000. A 1 bed starting maybe 15000 but the rental market is flooded with property what ever rent is asked for negotiate it down,, hard. Sent from my GT-I9000 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

March 11, 201610 yr its not that bkk is cheaper, its just much easier for foreigners to access local type housing in hcmc forget about it, your stuck with hotels or high priced housing as a foreigner
March 12, 201610 yr I live in BKK and go to HCMC every year for a brief visit. I have looked into housing there and been disappointed. No comparison to BKK. Less options and more expensive. You might find something affordable in the newer suburbs of HCMC but I need to live in the central city. From my experience, a studio in central BKK will be 15-20,000 baht/month depending on the age of the building, amenities and its location. HCMC starts at about $900.

So, it's seems safe to say, Bkk seems to be a better deal...about housing at least. Which for me is usually the biggest monthly expense
March 12, 201610 yr Why would you even want to go to HCMC (I assume you mean Saigon)? It's an even bigger, dirtier, smellier hole than BKK and that's really saying something. If BKK is the third world, then I guess Saigon must be the fourth...
March 12, 201610 yr I disagree, although it is possibly even more dangerous to walk or cycle around SAIGON,traffic does at least flow most of the time and air quality I would say such worse in Bkk. Concerning prices I found food much more expensive in Vietnam,if that is because Farang get ripped off there more or not I don't know.
