Samsung AirCon. question

Featured Replies

I have a one year old Samsung 18,000btu air conditioner. it works great and I am happy with it however I am puzzled by one aspect of my remote control and hope another Samsung user can explain. (The manual I have is in Thai)

When I changed fan speeds in the past, the remote display would show ascending lcd bars indicating fan speed and they would be steady. Now, when I change fan speed, they just blink and always show the same speed. I have tried different modes: "Cool" & "Dry" but no effect.

Can somebody explain what the blinking display means?

Do you have another button that says iFeel/auto mode or something? Try turning that off. You can also search online for English manuals for various model units/remotes.

I also have a Samsung 18000 BTU - just the standard type, not an inverter.

I think that if the fan speed bars flash in ascending order then the fan is in auto mode. Certainly seems to be the case with mine - if you repeatedly press the fan button you get 1,2,3 bars and on the next press the bars flash. I don't have an English manual either so I just leave mine in full auto mode, where it controls both temperature and humidity. The only thing that I set is the temperature - 25 deg C - and I just leave it to get on with things. Seems OK.

Thanks DM, that's probably it and "auto" mode does seem to work well.

Unfortunately, Samsung gives unique model numbers to air conditioners sold in Thailand so finding a corresponding English version is difficult.

I find that every few months my air-con remote needs to be reset when it doesnt work properly. There is a recessed button on it for this.

Just to report back, I tried changing the batteries and that stopped the blinking so the blinking may have just been a weak battery warning.

I did look for a re-set button or pinhole; there was none but there was a button marked: "Filter Reset"...anybody know what that's about?

My remote is somewhat confusing because it has several buttons for features of more expensive, deluxe models, not mine. Hard to know which ones work and which don't. also one or two "mystery buttons", labeled in Thai only.

Reset or its a bad remote.

I know some functions on the remote are onlly applicable to some certain models.

Some (very few here) do, you need to research the model number to see if it's a heating version.

With the weather at present I wish ours was, brrrrrr!

I'm the OP and since this topic is specifically about Samsung air conditioners. I thought an update might be useful for anybody considering buying one.

In my OP, I mentioned how happy I was with my Samsung 18,000 btu inverter unit...now; twenty months on, not so much.

In that time, I have had it stop pumping cold air on 4 separate occasions necessitating repairs totaling more than B14,000.  I've given up on Samsung Service...never less than 5 working days to even show up then usually another 3 or 4 days to get the parts, then another visit, almost never at the time they specify. Ad to that that nothing that is wrong is ever covered by the warranty...useless!!   I now use a local repairman who usually shows up the next day and gets the job done though parts always seem to run around B3000, no matter what the problem.

During the hotter months, I do run my unit pretty much 24/7 while I am home so it does get heavy use but at less than 4 years old, I expect better durability.

Would I buy a Samsung AC again, even at a bargain price??  No way!! The money I saved has been eaten up long ago.
