Hotel dinner buffets, which one do you recommend?

Hotel restaurants have the reputation of offering shitty or overpriced food, but I noticed some restaurants actually have great dinner buffets for reasonable prices.

So I was wondering if someone could recommend me some hotel restaurants where they have good food for a nice price?

I have been to the Holiday Inn Resort on Patong already and I love their "Seafood buffet" (every Tuesday and Saturday, for 999 baht nett) as they have fresh raw oysters, sashimi, grilled rock lobster, shrimp, etc. And I even enjoy the desserts there as they have much on offering and it is not overly sweet.

Another one is the Renaissance hotel (north of the airport) where we went for a romantic BBQ buffet in their garden near the beach. They had a great selection of seafood and beef/lamb and even traditional Thai dancers (bit touristic, but it doesn't bother me). The price must have been around 1400 baht per person or something but I think it was worth it.

Instead of going back to these two great places, I am willing to try out some other hotel restaurants buffets also.

Now who can give me some tips on where i should go next?

While in one of the waiting areas at the hospital last month, I discovered a magazine targeted at tourists, named "The Guide Phuket". Inside this magazine was an entire section devoted to Hotel Buffets. It seems there are quite a few located all over Phuket.

You can access the magazine online at http://www.theguidephuket.com . I'm not sure how often this is published, but the edition that was current as of last month had the Hotel Buffet section. Prices seemed to range from about 600 to 1400 baht.

Thank you for the tip and link.

I checked it out and unfortunately its for brunch only, not dinner. And it seems more like an ad then a real review; the exact same 4 pages with information are being published every month (at least for the past 4 months).

I will check out some of the places mentioned there online, but in most cases I already discover that for some reason they never update the website. So they have a great dinner buffet in their restaurant, but nothing you can find about it online on their website. And these companies are often managed by foreigners, I expected them to be more competent...

eating from a phuket hotel buffet is almost the same as eating from a strip clubs "early bird" specials buffet table . the chances we take are mind boggling at times .

If out and about on a Friday night, not a hotel but a mighty great buffet is Karlsson's Patong. It's on Soi Gemstone (beach road), 399thb and a ton of good food.

Tell Kent Grumpy Old Man sent you ! (he might then kick you out, but oh well blink.png ) Just kidding, it's a good buffet with fun people.

Is that the Swedish steak house?

Can you tell a bit more about what they serve at the buffet?

It sounds great as I love a good steak.

(just checked their Facebook page, seems like they have spareribs, pork steaks, sausages, a salad bar, potatoes & bread, etc. Sounds good, I think i will give them a visit in the coming period!)

Please do, the owner Kent very good guy. I keep meaning to get there myself, but being in the south of the island just don't get to Patong very often. Lazy that way I guess.......

If possible (?) when/if you do go, revive this thread with a report. Thanks in advance Bob and cheers. GOM

Last Tuesday I tried out the "BBQ Seafood Dinner Buffet" at Mosaic restaurant (Phuket Panwa Beachfront Resort) and for 799 baht net there was not much to complain about.

It is low season now so there were only 3 tables taken (6 people in total) including us, so you can expect the following:

- nice atmosphere with a stunning view over the sea

- freshly grilled seafood (crab, shrimp, fish) and meats (chicken, pork, beef)

- 5 types of dessert, none of them overly sweet

- somtam

So the choice was rather limited but that would mostly be due to the low season. It would be a waste to offer 20 different dishes and throw away almost all at the end of the evening.

The cook doing the BBQ'ing kept grilling small portions so it was relatively freshly grilled

The beef was extraordinary; medium rare with some grilled vegetables.

This hotel is frequented by bus tours of Chinese, but they do not eat in the hotel. So don't be afraid for a pushing horde taking away all the shrimp.
