Should have been closed down immediately by Mcdonalds and Thai health inspectors..but probably isn't any ! Either way it should not be allowed to trade till it's had a complete clean bill of health and extermination and procedures put in place. Sounds like they just carried on !!! TiT

BINGO!

McDonalds is full of crap. If this happened in the developed world, the location would be closed until all health hazards were removed and past inspection by reps from head office. Because McDonalds can get away with this behaviour in Thailand it does so. Nice double standard.

Yes you are right.

However, they don't say that they are selling quality food, like MD.

And, btw, thank you for YOUR stupid commend.

Have a nice day and get a quality meal, is that withor without rat?

This may be what is needed to have Maccas look at the franchisee here of its brand. Its reputation for clean food is one it worked hard for and is important to its brand. They may turn a blind eye to advrtising and service breaches but I am sure there are more than a few emails flying between here and the US.

I thought, from the headline, that they had invited one in to eat.

'The company however defended that the Lee Garden Hat Yai outlet in question was surrounded with sewers and shops which were infested with rats and insects ... McDonald Thailand would consult with the landlord, Lee Garden, to get rid of the rodents and insects in the shopping mall and its surrounding.' Presumably something they wouldn't have bothered with doing had the rat not popped in for a snack ... and been widely observed eating.

There are rats everywhere, in all cities, all over the world. Normally, you have a responsible government and health administrations/ inspectors/ city hall, that control this problem by having extermination carried out regularly. There is no valid reason, that supposed clean places like supermarkets etc have rats. Also, normally, every business owner also takes the necessary steps to get rid of cock roaches/ rats . In Hua hin I've seen huge ones running through restaurants ( night market), and in the daytime market. Pattaya everywhere, beach, 2 nd road. Phuket didn't seem too bad funnily.A huge danger to health, and when you think that children and adults play in the sand where rats, dogs and humans have been peeing on them all night long ...........

"As the world’s business leader in quality food"

You what?

McDonald's?

Quality food?

Don't think so.

Totally agree! They may be the world's leader in a particular type of food, (reconsituted c**p!), but QUALITY?

How are they allowed to get away with such outrageous statements, and blatant lies?

Would be par for the course at many Thai places.

Based on my years - since 1950 - association with Thailand and its people this is CORRECT.

Thais (supposedly being Buddhist) do not kill rodents and other insects cockroaches included, every time I kill a cockroach - which is not too often - I keep my place and surrounding garden pretty much rodents/insects free - the housekeeping staff were I live get their knickers in a twist. I can hear them under their breath STUPID FALANG.

They kill people including children - read TVF and other Newsletters - at a daily and increasing clip, but killing rats that's another story.

If you want to live here better get used to it.

LOL in LOS.

Hat Yai = Rat Yai

FYI, a poster named 'ratcatcher' made that joke already, Sir, but you didn't read the thread, apparently.

Incidentally Yai means big, so Rat Yai would translate as Big Rat.

Actually I find rats to be rather cute animals. Much cuter than a lot of humans, intelligent, far less vicious/nasty/belligerent, and definitely quite social. I wish rats would post comments on this Forum more often.

Well McD. don't admit rats ,make them eat in other places , keep the buggers out. Lots of anti Mcs here . I like Mc D's , am I the only one on TV ?

Funny comment Phil biggrin.png Right, keep the buggers off the burgers !

By the way I wouldn't call myself an 'anti Mc', can't deny that the taste is pleasing - it's just that when they call themselves the 'world's leading business in quality food', you gotta drink a loooooot of coke to gulp that one down, dontcha think ?

This is thee problem when they decide to besmirch their name by operating in a country where they by law cannot have control of their company. If this had happened in another country Maccas would b throwing all their resources at it. Here they do not have control of their franchisee because of the Thai Ownership rules.

Nothing to prove at all for I don't give a rat about this subject.smile.png

I do not spend too much time I have plenty and was just joking you wont find any posts of me bickering for the simplest reason most of the time I do not bother to answer when I disagree, nowing too well the average HomoSapiens ThaiVisaum.. only this time I reckonwai.gif I found ridiculous, I'm not perfect ...yes ridiculous to say that in Thailand: foodstalls + restaurants + markets + supermarkets + home + scools open kitchen were "infested with rats" most big towns in fact youll be surprised are facing this rodents problem, just Googled the question it is hard to believe, but kinda saying Thailand infested with rats whistling.gif .

As for your phrase that I'm angry at Thailand? Hard to understand, rather the opposite, plus I am not angry at many things nor at any one and if I am sometimes because once again I'm not perfect I'm lucky enough to forget it easily in a very short time.

Now the voice of wisdom is we shall forget each other, no offence, I mean as far as rats are concerned.mfr_closed1.gif

McDonald's in Thailand blames rat sighting on local sewers

BANGKOK (AP) — McDonald's in Thailand has apologized to customers after a video surfaced online showing a large rat scurrying around a dessert counter at one of its restaurants.

The fast-food giant confirmed in a statement that a rat had rummaged through its outlet in a shopping mall in the city of Hat Yai in southern Thailand, and blamed the incident on the unhygienic neighborhood where the complex is located.

"We checked security footage and found that the accusation is true. A rat ran into the restaurant," McDonald's Thailand said in a statement Sunday. "We ordered the restaurant to clean all of its equipment and the whole restaurant, especially the dessert counter, right away."

The 21-second video clip was posted on YouTube on March 21, and the company became aware of the rodent issue the following morning and immediately ordered the thorough cleaning, it said. The video had a revival last week and got more attention, including local news coverage, which prompted the official statement.

The Hat Yai outlet "is located near street vendors and public sewers that are a breeding area for rats and insects," McDonald's Thailand said. It added that McDonald's pays close attention to hygiene and regularly hires pest control services as does the shopping mall, Lee Garden Plaza.

As a result of the video, McDonald's has asked the mall to increase rat control measures around the complex and Hat Yai public health officials to increase inspections of street vendors and the restaurant itself, the statement said.

...again...always somebody else to blame....

....and cleaning the equipment....how about the contaminated condiments....???

...to blame someone else for rats in your own establishment.....is beyond absurd.......
