Baby just over a week old and on formula. Has been great up until 2 days ago. Little pellet poos and clearly tummy pain. He had a good poo last night and pains started again in the morning. I used the bicycle method with his legs for a while and he had another poo. He relaxed then until this afternoon. He's taking all his formula and then some. 2 ounces a feed and a feed every 2 hours or so. Always make sure we burp him well. He's not vomiting any formula or anything.

He was originally on infalac but we changed him to S26 this morning to see if that helped. When he gets the pains seems to come in waves

We were going to take him to the hospital tonight but on the way we found a pharmacy open. I thought he might give the wife a glycerine supository or something but instead gave her Bebidol infant antacid.

I can't find anything on google about it?

First question is it safe?

I thought maybe he was constipated but on reflection he has pood twice in 24 hours (normal size texture poo) so maybe it's gas / colic? I didn't know new born could get gas?

What do u think Sheryl?

If you are concerned about the babies well being then seek medical advice and do not indulge in any self or Dr.Google diagnosis.

Also avoid giving any self or pharmacy prescribed medication to the child.

In a neonate (less than one month old) should never self treat or rely on a pharmacy. Take the baby to a hospital. Babies that young are very vulnerable.

There is even possibility of a congenital anomaly in the GI tract, given how young the baby is.

It may be nothing but he needs to be thoroughly examined by a pediatrician to be sure.

Breast feeding is by far the best & safest option for a newborn. Any stomach issues should not be self treated & if they persist you absolutely must take the baby to a qualified doctor

Thanks for all the help. Breast feeding not an option unfortunately. As it turns out it appears to have been the formula (infalac). Switched to Naan and the difference was immediate. Have read about many similar issues with that formula. Yes agree self diagnosis no good but I've had 4 kids and 9 o'clock at night here there are no clinics open. Sitting in the emergency room for a couple of hours with infectious people in my opinion would be worse than trying a few things for what were constipation / cholic type symptoms. He's good as gold now and we're due to see the doctor for a routine check up in a couple of days.

Most(the vast majority) people attending ER are NOT 'infectious'.

Thought you said you had changed the babies formula to S-26 from Enfalac ?

NB

Naan is a type of bread which I hope you are not trying to feed the baby with.

I agree 100%.

It's likely that you just have to experiment with baby formaula, but let a health professional be the judge of that. Normal stuff hopefully.
