BANGKOK: Mystery surrounds the vicious killing of a woman who had been reported missing since earlier in the week.

The body of 60 year old Chaleo Kaetwong from downtown Sukhothai was found today 100 metres in undergrowth near a temple in the Kong Krailat district of the northern Thai town.

Her face had been smashed in with a heavy object and police suspect she was garrotted with her own shoulder bag strap. Her Honda motorbike was found parked nearby.

She was wearing a red shirt and black shorts and judging by the state of decomposition she had been dead for a minimum of three days, said police.

Relatives said that Chaleo had left home on Monday saying she was going to see friends in Kong Krailat. After she failed to come home they reported her missing to Sukhothai police.

Police investigating the case are interviewing the friends that the lady was visiting that day to try to get a lead in the case.

Another sad example why women should take self defense lessons and carry legal objects that can cause intense pain with a non lethal strike; so they can make a fast escape.

The frequency of these gruesome murders should call attention to the mental health of a good many Thais...maybe the PM can somehow magically make these people happy...so that they can have a little more compassion for their fellow Thai...instead of looking for a reason to cruelly end a life...
