Hi, I posted this on another forum(Flyertalk) but no one was able to give me an answer, hopefully someone with local knowledge will know'

Hi, hope someone can give me some insight, The EVA flight from Bangkok to London BR067, over the last few weeks has consistently been late in leaving Bangkok (anything up to an hour or more) resulting in its arrival at London getting later and later.
Does anyone have an explanation for this, I know that a few weeks ago there were delays at Bangkok due to new ATC procedures being introduced but I would have thought they would have been ironed out by now.
I asked because I am booked on this flight in a few weeks and after landing in London I have a long drive home and if it is going to be as late as it has been I want to book a hotel in the area rather than drive.
Thanks for any info

I'd imagine its heavier headwinds from Taipai to Bangkok perhaps first ?? Eva wouldnt want delays because its a late evening departure from Heathrow on the return sectors and any lengthy delay and its fined heavily for taking off after curfew hours (if allowed at all)

I catch it sometimes and I have 230 miles to go after landing.

Have you seen the ratings at flightstats.com?

This flight has a very bad on time rating overall.

I don't have an explanation and so far thought that EVA is a reputable airline.

Book a hotel.

Out of the four flights to London there is none with a real good on time rating.

One could speculate that it has to do with the destination?

Easy to be stacked over Heathrow for an hour daily

Suggest you check if the delays start with a late departure from Taipei.

Headwinds on the Taipei to Bangkok leg are not normally significant.

I use China Airlines and it frequently arrives late into Bangkok, no way can they make up the time with a shorter turnaround.

Bangkok to London is always into wind and it is pretty much impossible to make up time, cruising speeds are fixed by fuel consumption issues, despite what airlines tell you.

Holding times at Heathrow are now reduced due to AMAN (arrival management) but this means slowing down well before you reach the stack, so less holding is required.

Tailwinds towards Thailand, headwinds towards Europe.

Flights to Thailand shorter than to Europe.

Nearly the same for all airlines to and from Europe and has to be worked into the schedule.

So either their schedules are unrealistic or they are simply incompetent.

On time rating for Swiss flight LX 181 from Bangkok to Zurich for comparison with post #3:

As I was flying BR67 to LHR 3 weeks ago I was watching the on time performance. The problems seem to be two fold, late departure from Taipei and an extended turn around in BKK. My flight departed Taipei 30 mins late but then departed BKK 1:20 late. We arrived in LHR 50 mins late with no time in the stack.

RabC I have been doing the same as you, it seems that the turnaround time in Bangkok is the problem, this is why i was thinking that the ATC issues are still ongoing as I have done this flight many times in the past and it has never been more than 10/15 mins late leaving BKK.

Ah well, will just have to hope for the best

I agree, up until this last few months EVA's on time into LHR was pretty good. All the delayed late night departures from LHR for the return leg must be costing them a fortune in fines.
