Question re Morestech G1W Dashcam

Featured Replies

I've had a Morestech G1W dashcam for about a year but it's been freezing up a bit lately, maybe because of the extremely hot weather. However, my question is that when the SD card is full should the files be automatically overwritten? Because if the card is full and the camera no longer records this obviously would present a problem. I have the Loop recording set at 5 minutes which is the maximum I can do on my particular model, but how can I be sure that the camera is still recording images?

I've had one of these for a while now. It does overwrite when the SD card is full. It will not overwrite files you have pressed the lock button for though. Eventually if you have locked enough files the card could theoretically become full and then it might freeze.

One thing I've noticed, is that the last or most recent file in a given folder is often corrupted and cannot be opened - I think its due to the internal battery getting tired and the last file (5 minute block) not being saved or closed correctly when the power is cut. So either switch it off manually to keep the last file or assuming there wasn't an incident to keep within 5 minute of the end of your trip don't worry about it. If you do have an incident or accident don't turn off the camera for at least 5 minutes afterwards to reduce the risk of loosing the last file.

I looked into replacing the battery which is possible but it needs the camera to be dismantled and be de-soldered - I might get round to replacing it one day.

Here's a video I found of how it can be done.

There's no power in my battery now once I disconnect from the cigarette lighter. Which is the Lock button? I don't recall seeing that on any setting.

Mine does the same when disconnected from the cigarette lighter. - Internal battery failure I'm assuming.

When the camera is recording, press top right button once (marked "M"), that will show a Key icon in the center of the display locking the current 5 minute file and preventing it from being overwritten.

There's a PDF manual / user guide in English here-: http://www.spytecinc.com/downloads/files/G1W/G1W-C%20Dash%20Camera%20SpyTec%20Manual.pdf

Thanks for that, virtually no instruction came with the camera.

I saw that key symbol on the screen before but had no idea what it meant, I must have inadvertently pressed the M button when it was recording.

Did you buy a G1W on lazada or anywhere else in Thailand lately ? Who was the seller, and does the cam seem authentic from china ? :-)

Never seen a fake, but some people said that they exist.
