How do you download music from Youtube ?

Featured Replies

If your browser supports extensions, search for an extension as "youtube downloader" and you'll find several. They usually give you a drop-down menu of various resolutions for video downloads and choices for audio-only downloads.

Above good, and I've used many of the free packages on here http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/free-dvd-video-software-download.htm including "Free YouTube Download" for some years. The advantage of this particular package is it will allow you to just download the file "as is", or to download (say) an MP4 video and convert it to MP3 thus just keeping the sound. Up to you!!

If you're using Slimjet as a browser, YT vids have a download button underneath the video. Click on it and it'll download to your computer.

I love slimjet.

uses chrome add ons, and does not bind me to Google updates.....

It is now my main browser, although I use Opera and Firefox for some of my browsing.

I use two large screen televisions, and run separate browsers on each, with a remote keyboard. Very handy.

download helper for firefox is good, as well.

However............

I love my SM Player. Really great. It has a youtube browser option and you can click and drag all your youtube videos right into a playlist. You can then save the playlist. You will need to be online, to load your playlist....but you have the option to download the videos and play them offline, using all the methods previous posters mentioned.. SM player is more useful to me than vlc...in this regard. Many skins available...and free.

If you only want the MP-3 and not the video:

Open YT, select the music you want to copy, highlight and "copy" the URL (right click)

Open a new tab in your browser and go to Google

Enter "YouTube to MP-3", Select the top option "YouTube to MP-3.org"

On the top of the web page, under where YOUTUBE-MP3 is written in blue, there is a URL box. Clear it.

"Paste" the copied URL and then select the "Convert Video" box just below. Wait a few seconds

A new box will appear: click the blue "Download" link. It will take about 5-10 seconds to download.

That's it.

dddave,
Just tried that - and it does as you say, meaning the conversion's actually done BEFORE the download which might help people on slow connections.
So thank you.
A couple of observations if I may:
1 A slightly shorter procedure would be:
Open YT, select the music you want to copy, highlight and "copy" the URL (right click)
Open a new tab in your browser and go to http://www.youtube-mp3.org/
On the top of the web page, under where YOUTUBE-MP3 is written in blue, there is a URL box.
"Paste" the copied URL over any existing content in the box and then select the "Convert Video" box just below.
It just cuts out a couple of steps and if you do it a lot, then you can save http://www.youtube-mp3.org/ as a Favourite or Bookmark.
2 A negative point is that the files i tried it with all downloaded at 128kbps. Other methods allow you to choose higher bit rates (less compression, higher quality) but I will admit, it won't worry a lot of people.

I posted this method because while it may not be the best option out there, it is one of the simplest once you've done it a few times. I agree with your modified steps and that is what I normally do...I just wanted to leave no guesswork for a users first time.

Indeed - I do sometimes forget that not everyone is a "geek" - I just can't help being one! biggrin.png

I use IDM (Internet Download Manager). It works great and can highly recommend it.

  • 1 year later...

Despite my earlier post (ID 7) saying that I used to use lots of the DVDVideoSoft utilities, I found over the years that they got more and more restrictive and when I updated one of them, it forced updates on any others you may have installed.

As   @johng   recommended, I now use this one https://www.4kdownload.com/howto/howto-download-youtube-video?source=videodownloader successfully for YouTube and almost every other web site containing videos.

Free and lots of help on the site.

And, just for grins, i just used it to download the OP's original video without a problem.
