500 baht fine for the developer/owner....will know better next time. Ignored stop work/shut down orders since 1995...21 years illegally open......I imagine a hefty profit was made even after all tea money paid...

"Paradise Beach Management Co was ordered to halt construction and operations while investigations continued, but the company ignored the order, so it was decided to issue the demolition notice to the company under the Building Control Act"

So, if they ignored the order to halt operations, why were the police not sent in to close the place down. All they would need to do is send a few officers to the car park area, and turn away customers at the gate. Why didn't they do this? Oh, never mind.

A demolition order was probably a much better option for the owners (as opposed to a shutdown), because it'll be appealed, and there's a very high likelihood that the demolition will never occur. Local officials will save face by saying "see, we tried to do something", and the owners/investors keep the business in operation. Everyone that matters is happy.

Meanwhile, at Paradise Beach, it's business as usual with continuous promotional activity for their full and half-moon parties, and raking in megabaht daily.

"You will also find the activities station on this main beach, with stand-up paddleboards (SUPs), kayaks, snorkelling equipment and lifejackets available. Unlike Patong Beach itself, you will not find the sand cluttered with speedboats, parasailing and jet skis. Use of the activities equipment is included in the entry cost and requires no additional payments."

"There is a second smaller beach with its own private bar, which can be used as an exclusive VIP party venue if arranged in advance."

They're not even pretending they haven't taken over the beach for private business!

Try arriving there now by long tail for a free day on the beach and see what ensues!

28 days left & counting, but I won't be holding my breath.

I believe the proprietors may be related to a previous Patong Mayor (& may possibly be the next mayor?). If this is the case this is going to be interesting.

Uh huh.

The last time I looked at his facebook page, over half of the postings were promotions for Paradise Beach.

Are you talking about the son of the previous Patong mayor Keesin?

Sorry about the late response but from what im hearing the answer is yes.

25 days and counting

Well...according to my calendar 30 days have now passed since the order to demolish was given. I see and hear that the Paradise is still advertising so I'm presuming the everything is normal.

In a country where 'face' is everything I'm surprised the good mayor of Patong spit her dummy out and ask, no not ask but DEMAND, that her orders are not acted on. The blatant disregard of the mayors instructions is, I would think, a major loss of face.

Sorry to spoil your Sunday breakfast madam mayor.

No loss of face at all.

These things do need a lot of time in Thailand.

I am convinced it will be demolished, others may have a different opinion.

You could be right however, 30 was the number of days given.

Come to think of it, just how long does a Thai 'day' last?

Went there today 100 baht entry fee and they wanna check your bags and confiscate food and drinks although she happily mentioned this only applies to westerners.

God I remember it really was paradise 7 years ago.

Does anyone know if they did knock the hotel down or did the whole thing fizzle out?

I wasn't going to pay so I don't know. Either way there is a bunch of crap they have built down there now.

So your post was over a year ago DrDave yet still nothing has changed??????

Stinks of corrupt officials, brown envelopes, contacts in high places and perhaps more snouts in the trough than we know about??

Absolutely appalling.

There should be a follow up/"where are they now" section on thaivisa.

So many stories like thisone where there is a bit of huff n puff i blow your house down but a year or so later and little piggy still in his hotel down there and bussiness is boomin.

Doubtful anything will happen, as according to local rumors, the owner is very likely to become Patong's next mayor.

But in any "normal" society/country the Governor of Phuket should be able to step in and order its demolition and fine the perpetrators, helped of course by the upstanding military and the National Anti-Corruption people...........oops, just realised what I'd written.....get real xylophone, you ting tong farang!!

Corruption will never cease here because it is perpetrated and encouraged by the people who have the power and they want to keep their coffers full, so it is a big merry-go-round of corruption and power, and the beat goes on........

Far from possible demolition it actually seems to have become a protected species.

People just have to accept Paradise Beach has become a private enterprise requiring the public to pay for admission in much the same way that several big resort conglomerates have purloined a number of beaches on the Island.

Even this very website carries adverts for their 'On the beach" parties in the events forum.

Well the current one took the opportunity for family land to be developed from Kalim to Kamala that had always been blocked by Pian. She's taken advantage of her turn at the table.

To his credit (can't believe I'm saying this!) Pian was quite proactive around town- one rarely hears of her but she has been kept in her box by others on the council.  All his son will do is catch up for the lost years she has been in power and it will be business as usual for the clan.

Yup you correct. I also was a bit shocked when i thought last week.....missing the times with Pian in Patong.

If they keep going on their demolition spree , there will be no building left in Thailand .

Interesting whom received the Tea Money allowing this for many years.

Perhaps it's not shifting to the correct pockets. quickly enough

Are you always so prone to overstatement? This is a good move in reality.

Hadn't thought about it that way............now she probably doesn't want to rock the boat and upset him in case he gets nasty when he's in power. A sort of truce, you might say?

If by "proactive", you mean taking every available opportunity to extort and exploit for personal/family benefit, then I have to agree.

I saw him out plenty of times checking up on things around the town in his distinctive pork pie hat. The current incumbent just seems to hide in her office. As I pointed out in my original post she appears to be doing exactly the same thing Pian was.

I know he was lining his pockets with a lot of things but he WAS out doing things that benefited Patong as well. I was a harsh critic of him bit at least I am prepared to stand by my statement.

Others just seem to need to project the 'Thaigeezer negative' on permanent send.

Show me ANY politician ANYWHERE who is in the job for the benefit of others-its all about having a turn at the trough.

Is this the hotel...

paradise hotel patong beach phuket?

No, Paradise Hotel is a  about 700 m from Patong beach,  200m from Bangla nightlife.

The article talks about Paradise beach. Not near Patong beach.

No, I have personal experience with the "extort and exploit" that I mentioned in my post. It's now a moot point, so I'll just leave it at that.
