Beijing: Australian ex-jockey Anthony Bannister will appear in the Guangdong High Court on Tuesday to appeal a suspended death sentence handed down last June.

Suspended death sentences in China are usually commuted to life imprisonment after a period of good behaviour; in Bannister's case, it is two years. He has been in detention since March 2014, when customs officials detected the ice stuffed in eight ladies' handbags in his luggage.

But just across the border that separates China from its special administrative region of Hong Kong, Bannister's situation might be very different.
In a landmark Hong Kong court ruling in September, six westerners – including two Australians – were set free despite having been caught with commercial quantities of crystal methamphetamine while attempting to board flights to Australia.

As far as drug running for greed and monetary gains, any punishments matted to them is too little,

those scums of the earth have no place in society peddling their deadly merchandises,

Unfortunately, the world have become to accept those vermin and some kind of ' here to stay' evil,

and the courts throughout the world have started showing mercy to those who should not given any....
