Have to concur with "Mick Dundee" on this one....you do talk absolute bolloxx...specialist subject "the bleeding obvious" tell us something we don't know eh! Something that none if us on the thread has not covered over and over again. ...from a half a sleep keeper to an ageing and decrepit back four and at times a no_pace midfield. Yeah tell us again about comb_over Bobby Charlton and "those eyes"that said so very much.

Well Keith expected you to come up with something  a bit more constructive being one of the sensible posters, only pointing out to your mate ES that for whatever reason you haven't signed defensive players of quality and he waffles on about Zouma being injured.Zouma and Quality, nice oxy moron that one.

So lets get back to why Chelsea can't or won't sign quality defenders ,do you know why? legitimate question, I would have thougth ,and many  are wondering, don't you have a feeling why ? Conte is supposed to be one of those managers that prides himself on defensive work but in his defence you have to have something to work with. You have dozens of players out on loan, is there not a defender among them or is it a case of only wanting the finished product ?

I think Stones was very comfortable going to  City, pure media specualtion about wanting to go to Chelsea.........     cheers

First ten mins we were very unsettled  with passes going astray,we were all over the place. Then 15 mins in we settled and there was never really a worry and just matter of time when we scored and then how many it could be.  Maybe we have seen the last of Ivan...well at least at Rb ..i hope.. Alonso Kante hazard and costa were stand outs for me...alas Cahill still looks like he has a mistake in him...so hurry up back Zouma.

Yes, Hazard and Kante were superb throughout the game. A  satisfactory first start by Alonso, although he'll have livelier wingers to contend with than Hull's sloths. Willian was played centrally and given more freedom to express himself but, I was disappointed with his display up until the goal. Then he got more confident and took players on rather than stopping to a halt and waving his right foot over the ball like a big lemon. That driving run by Matic, into their area was class but he doesn't do that enough for my liking. Moses did well and deserves a run in the side.

thats a wee bit better ,though against a poor side who will be fighting to remain in the top flight this season

great to see Moses start and put in a promising shift

That first 45 minutes was the best I've seen us play for a long time. Plenty of energy and drive and, when we lost the ball, the desire was there to get it back as quickly as possible. The new system that Conte employed adds more attacking flair to the team, especially Moses and Pedro, who were very lively. I like Moses's attitude on defending. None of this backing off like Ivan the Terrible but steaming straight into the tackle. His goal was sublime with Chalobah's nonchalant dummy and flick to set him up. Kante put in another masterful performance while Hazard was always a threat. Luiz was superb in this game.

I can't work out what Costa was moaning about. Was he telling Conte to take him off (one more booking or he's out of the next game) or was he annoyed that Conte wanted to sub. him? He's putting the goals away but is he up his own arse or what?

Costa is being Costa.even he probably doesnt know what he was carrying on about. If he wasn't in such great form Conte would have him sitting in the ''naughty" seat in the stand.

Big improvement in form from all.

Yep overall good performance all round. Moses is working very hard and looks good as a wing back,Alonso also looks to be getting more comfortable in his position. Nice to see both Aina and Chalobah getting game time......Zouma is close to a return i hear. Costa...he thought the game was won and he had done enough ......Conte thought otherwise :post-4641-1156694606:

I see that Solanke was on the bench for this match. He started the season on loan at Vitesse Arnheim so Conte must have specifically requested that he be brought back. A highly promising striker but, with Costa and Batshuayi ahead of him in the pecking order, he'll be spending a lot of time on the bench. Maybe Conte feels he can learn more, training with the squad. Aina wasn't on for long but he showed what a very good full back he is becoming. Old stalwart Azpilicueta is under severe pressure to keep his place, from this lad, in the new formation. Cahill, playing on the left side of the back three, looked uncomfortable, as he kept switching to his favoured right foot. It was fortunate that he had enough time to get away with it in this game, as Luiz was marking Vardy out of the game. Terry is far more comfortable with either foot, so I reckon he'll come in against United, in the centre of the back three with Luiz, who's also two footed, switching to the left.

With this new attacking formation with reliance on pace, people like Oscar, Ivanovic, Mikel and Fabregas can onl;y hope to get back in the team if we have a disastrous run of injuries or if Conte decides to go ultra defensive in all or part of some games. There's talk of Fabregas moving to AC Milan in any case. Zouma is close to full fitness but, after a bad injury, has he still got the pace he possessed before? I can see Conte easing him back in with a few 'off the bench' appearances late on in matches. Willian 's got his work cut out to shift Pedro from his place in the team. He was all action and seems to have got his confidence back.  It was nice to see the  togetherness of the team after Hazard's goal, immediately acknowledging Willian's absence and Moses, kissing the badge after his.

Cahill is now the weak link at the back.Chalobah always looks comfortable on the ball, and edges in front of Loftus Cheek in the pecking order for me. Solanke will probably get some mins next week against the hammers and maybe the following week against Southampton.....Costa will definitely get booked on Sunday, there is no way he is going to tolerate Smalling grabbing his shirt at every opportunity without reacting.Just hope Conte sticks to the current system and doesn,t revert to a back 4.

Agree with Costa Keith, a guaranteed card whatever colour. Regarding the game United, after around the 30 minute mark against Liverpool, became defensively minded and rapidly closed down the dangerous players like Mane and Coutinho, to the point where Liverpool were stifled in midfield. Against us, Mourinho definitely will have his team set up not to lose but might fancy his chances a bit more so it could be a more open game.

lets see how we play against m/u still iffy   J.M.O. with back three formation,a side with extra pace can bring that undone, and in  the EPL to this point of time ,only works for a short time

great to see no  RAT ,no  TOSCAR, or TORTISE, , hope this continues forever, and give  the youngsters a fair go

my old cobber, The Governor, added another  goal ,doing O.K.with no first touch, perhaps a stormy petrel, but scores goals  ,so E/S  does ,nt  give a  FLUFF

Fair point E/S. Taking the United game, I haven't looked up the stats, but my memory from our last two home meetings with them, is that they controlled most of the possession. My gut feeling of Sunday's game is that won't change so, we need to be organized, compact and do them on the break. It's vital that we don't allow any 'one on one' situations between Azpilicueta and Martial and Lingard on Luiz, which means Alonso and Moses getting back and providing the cover when we're defending. Alonso worries me a bit as he doesn't have explosive pace although, from what little we've seen of him, he looks an intelligent player. If Pedro plays from the start, and displays the energy and work ethic he showed against Leicester, then he will also provide good cover for Azpilicueta. Ideally, we'll be camped in their half and they will have to do all the worrying!

He's certainly banging the goals in but the rumor mill suggests Mittens wants away back to Athletico.  Bit too chilly, homesick or something along those lines.

watched your match to nite, Spuds certainly needed The Governor leading the front line instead of Daughter and company, he would have at least nicked one, for mine Spuds  look pretty, but lacked the grit and bottle to take out the E.P.L. title, and its not close to Sqeaky Bum Time yet ,

Fair play to Conte....had less time than nearly every other prem manager to get us organised for this season and his decision to go 3 at the back and drop Ivan for the first time in nearly 7 years is paying dividends. Great performance today lads.?

The newspapers make you laugh, don't they? Two weeks ago, Conte was on his way out of Stamford Bridge but now, they're all over him. Waxing lyrical, but absolutely not a 'dickie bird' of what they wrote previously. That's no surprise because they write so much <deleted> in such a short space of time, they're hoping no one notices. They don't care who they hurt anyway, as long as there is b*****ks and innuendo to satisfy the Neanderthals that lap up that crap.

Regarding the game, I can't believe how badly United defended., possibly because, with all of the possession they had, Smalling et al decided that they would settle back in their deckchairs and enjoy the fun. Even after conceding early (terrific anticipation and energy by Pedro), they didn't learn. Hazard sent them to sleep, after a few shimmies and then stopping dead before he set off like a greyhound and planted a right footer in the bottom corner. Kante's goal should be stuck in a case and put on display. The lay off by Hazard was deft and Kante's drop of the shoulder, to send two defenders towards the corner flag, was very classy.

There was a few worrying moments early on for us, when Alonso was skinned a couple of times by Valencia, but that was soon sorted out by doubling up on him. It has to be said that United had their chances but Courtois, finally showing why he's worth his place in the side, was equal to anything that came his way. Mourinho didn't like the way Conte was whipping the crowd into a frenzy.Of course he would never stoop so low himself would he?

Of the sides fighting it out Liverpool look to have that grit and killer instinct more than the rest.

Long way to go however.

I thought they got very flakey against West Brom, Smokes. Liverpool should have pissed up against that mob but allowed them back in it.

He'll need to sharpen up the defense.  But yes, Liverpool looking like a very good team in the making.

Disappointing result....7 changes from Sundays  team. William gave the ball away far too many times, Oscar far too slow and no great influence on the game, Batshuyai not clinical enough and wants far too.many touches...both wilian and Oscar should have been subb and not Aina or Chalobah who both had good games imho....ugly seens towards the end of the game....always on the cards.

Ignore the above.

Best I've seen out of Costa in a long while. Loads of pace and what a goal. And precious little of the bad boy rubbish.
