Steps Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Hi, I will be taking my son to the UK next year with my missus and daughter and leaving him there with my parents for schooling in the UK. The plan is for him to travel with my parents every summer term back to Thailand and maybe even over the Christmas breaks. He has dual nationality and i am familiar how the passport's work at immigration. My question is, as he will be leaving with his grandparents on a Thai passport, what else will he need. I have heard about the letter from the mother. Does anybody have experience with this? Thank you
claffey Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 I'm not sure about leaving the UK but when leaving Thai he will require a letter from his Thai Mum stating that he has permission to travel with his grandparents. Also, a signed copy of her passport or ID card. You could also include your details and a signed copy of your passport just to be sure. You could also obtain a letter from his school in the UK that confirms his registration and attendance there. You might not need all this but its always better to have more than you need as things can be lost in translation here...The Thais love an official letter with a stamp on it so the letter from his school would help a lot...

The Travel Consent Letter needs to be notarised. http://www.childtravelconsent.com

Having just returned from Canada with my 5 year old I do have some experience. In Bangkok I was asked at immigration if I had a letter from my wife, I have sole custody from the Thai court, showed that paper and on my way. In Vancouver a customs agent approaced me and said Dad and son? Yes. Where's Mom? I said in a Thai prison for the next 25 years ( I have the documents for that also, in thai and english) Proceed says nice customs lady a little flustered. Again apoligies for the stupid post above ( I think I started to write some reply and gave up)
