CHIANG RAI: -- Region 5 police announced the arrest of a Thai man transporting Ya Ba in what is believed to be connected to a large seizure of drugs in Burma this week. The production is likely to be a group of "Red Muser" tribesmen.

Charoen Chumchan, 41, was stopped at the three way intersection Mae Chan - Mae Sai - Chiang Saen in Chiang Rai. He was carrying 1,128,000 pills reported Thairath. The Chiang Rai native told police he "had no idea it was such a large amount" and had been paid 20,000 baht for the delivery.

He was charged with possession of class 1 drugs with intent to sell.

Many checkpoints have been set up in the north following the seizure of 20 million tablets across the border and police say this was headed for Thailand and other deliveries are expected from the same source.

In another incident two men riding a motorcycle near a checkpoint escaped after abandoning their vehicle and running off in to the forest. A search party failed to locate them. A bag with the bike contained three packs with 6,920 pills.
