The Social Security "Are you alive" letters have been sent out.

Some of us have already received them, so keep your eyes open for them.

Got mine on the 4th and it was the dated the 2nd of June.

It has been in the mail since the 6th, Now wasting to see if I get the 2nd notice.

these numbers for FAX might even be better as there are six different numbers based on the last 2 digits of your ssn...http://alantait.com/usa-social-secerity-living-in-the-philippines/ these numbers are also very close to the above voice numbers listed on the other link////410-965xxxx

so between the two sites..I would go for that....the efax is free so the 877, won't help things, it will just require some government gorilla to forward it to the right place.

I prefer not to take a chance... Registered mail with a tracking number. Peace of mind for 87 baht.

What do you do if you are no longer alive?

What do you do if you are no longer alive?

Dont send the letter stating that you are alive!

I don't sweat the small stuff....just a tracking device to see who has paid their taxes????

Under the radar and will continue to do so until my next dirt nap.....lol....?

2 years ago I sent mine by registered mail, signature required. It tracked to a USPS hub in Pa. and to this date does not show as being delivered. I did not get a 2d request so and my money kept coming, so it must have been delivered.

What do you do if you are no longer alive?

I'm sure your Thai wife will handle that seamlessly.

Thanks for the "heads-up". I changed addresses this year and advised SS but will be sure to have someone check at the old address.

Just tell the Social Security to go to hell smile.png

You have someone else send the response for you.

Yeah, like the wife.

I don't think registered mail is an option any more. Only EMS for 1400 baht is shown here. http://www.thailandpost.com/index.php?page=rate_result&country_code=US&weight=14

Ubonjoe,

I don't know how old that information is, and you may be right that it is not available anymore. FolkGuitar could probably say whether he used registered this year.

In my post, #12, I indicated that 2 years ago I sent registered, signature required and it still shows as "out for delivery. However, last year I sent mine by registered mail, no signature required, and it showed as delivered.

It is. I just sent mine yesterday. Registered mail, 87 baht. I had first asked about EMS, but as you said, it was more expensive than I remembered. So I asked the counter clerk what options were available to me. She wrote out a list so that there would be no misunderstanding. She said EMS - four days, Registered mail - two weeks, and regular mail 18 baht - two weeks. I asked which had a tracking number, and she replied that both EMS and Registered would give me the number. No need for a 4-day delivery, so I chose Registered Mail. The clerk circled my tracking number for me.

I did this at ไปรษณีย์สามแยกสวนปรุง 6 มหิดล, อ.เมืองเชียงใหม่, Chiang Mai 50210 Post office on Mahidol Rd, just south-west of the corner of the moat.

Info is as of today directly from the post office website.

Inquired about other options besides EMS at the post office here and they said there were none about 2 years ago.

I have been told by the post office here that it was not available. If it they said it was possible mine would of gone that way. Spent 600 baht for EMS 2 years ago when all I got was the 2nd notice.

Thanks to FolkGuitar for the heads-up info. And thanks to the others for the info on returning the form by registered mail.

Strange indeed! FolkGuitar just sent his... attached is my tracking from last year.post-402-0-31790800-1465705274_thumb.jpg

Never got one of these letters in 6 years- but use my stateside address and sign into the web site at least once per month. I guess the letters only go if you use an overseas address.?I

The last EMS I sent with the report the only tracking I got was on the Thai post office site. Never showed up on the USPS tracking.

Actually, I can understand "signature required" not getting a signature. It would take SS a long time just to sign for all the mail that may come requiring a signature. Or they may have another address for that.

From my own experience and the comments from Folkguitar, for myself, I will use registered with a tracking number.

No guarantee. Just recently I used EMS tracking and paid almost 1,400 baht. It took double the time to deliver and I ended missing my deadline and wasting the cost of using the EMS. Advise... Plan accordingly. Give yourself more time than they tell you.

I file a 1040 every year by snail mail. Maybe I will not get a form?
