Air Lift Pumps

Featured Replies

On an aquaponics course and someone says to use an 'air lift pump' to pump water from a fish tank on the ground floor to the vegetables green house on the 5th floor.

Why would you use an 'air lift pump'?

Do they use them in Thailand?

Why don't you ask the person who said it or the course organiser ?

Many people on this forum have had a lot to do with pumps, but I have never heard 'airlift pump' mentioned.

Just do a quick Google search, like I did.. You will understand the reasons for use :)

Cornishcarlos,

Sorry you miss my point.

Many posts on this forum talk about getting water from the ground floor of a shophouse etc to the 3rd or 4th floors, but no one has suggested using an air lift pump.

As I said, Google will tell you all you need to know. Much quicker than waiting for answers on here.

However, as Arjen has alreadyeady stated the static height obtainable with an airlift pump is very limited. To pump 3 or 4 stories high, you would need a bore hole at least 4 stories deep, as it's the water pressure which forces the air/water mix upwards.
