SURVEY: Does Public Transportation Need a Major Overhaul?

In the past, there have been a number of high profile accidents involving buses, minivans, taxis and motorcycle taxis. What do you think is the single most important way to improve the safety of public transport?

Please feel free to leave a comment.

I think they either need to due away with the Natural Gas or LPG vehicles in vans, or they need much better safety features. There have been some major firey crashes that seem to be related to gas tanks exploding.

If the police actually enforced the current laws including the road laws without fear or favour not just for the transport drivers but all drivers the transport industry would become safer by default. Regular drug and alcohol testing of drivers would also help.

Actual enforcement of the safety regulations for the vehicles would be another big step in the right direction. Not sure if it is in the remit of the police or another department, but regular inspections with meaningful fines for unsafe vehicles, such that it is cheaper to maintain the vehicle rather than waiting for the vehicle to breakdown would be another step in the right direction.

So a complete overhaul of the police force would do as much good as changing the rules and regulations.

What's the point of new laws, regulations etc if they just go the way of those already on the books, Not Enforced !

So common now these major accidents that they get the attention span of about the time they are shown on the news.

Thailand on road rules is all about all talk no action.

Always has been always will be.

You only have to look at the stupid video you are made to watch when you apply for a driving license. For overtaking they tell you "indicate then move out" no mention of checking what traffic is behind or if it is safe to overtake just do it. Sounds like they took the phrase from Mike literally
