New TOT3G packages

Featured Replies

My apologies if this has been posted already.

TOT3G now offers two new promotions which might be ideal for those unable to get fixed line services (of course this depends if their towers cover that area as well).

I was previously on the "Perfect Storm" package at 2mbps unlimited usage with no FUP. I used this as my main connection when I lived in a condo whose Wifi was absolute crap and they wouldn't allow me to install my own line. Although not the fastest, in my area it was quite reliable.

TOT's new "X-treme Net" promotions have a range of plans, the fastest being 3mbps for 729THB a month.

There's also the "Maxi-Net" promotion with 50 gigabytes at full speed (384kbps after) for 899THB.

I must admit that I had to google for "FUP".

"Fair use policy".

No FUP = no volume limit, bandwidth throttling.

Do you know what the full speed for this "Maxi-net" is?

It's not stated on the page, but I'm guessing 42 mbps if it's anything like their "net topping" plan.

If it says 100Mps you will get maximum of 42Mbps that is standard

Recently enquired at TOT in Buriram about their 3G packages and there response was OK for the city but no good outside of the city. I gather from this that Coverage may be an issue depending on your location and if you travel a lot, they seem to have some tie-up with AIS but when I mentioned this I was told too expensive don't bother. I thanked them and walked out the door a little confused.

My intention was to get a prepay sim to test, never mind - back to Truemove.

Anyone try this out in downtown Bangkok / Pattaya? How does it feel?

Is it a 'Sim' card that I pop into my phone (or dongle, or wifi-router) ?

(Looking for a backup for my internet)

Thank you.

How would a PostPaid service act as a 'backup'? You are better off with a Prepaid service if it's just for occasional 'downtime'.

The same way my other post paid VDSL connection is a backup.

A prepaid connection would be better depending on usage, but it doesn't take much to blast through a couple gigs these days.

It works great for me in Bangkok. Can't comment on Pattaya. It is a SIM card you can pop in your phone or 3G USB. Dongle.

The issue for me is not post/pre-paid. The issue is I burn through a lot of data in very short amount of time. So 3GB is nothing. If it's 'only' 800 THB then it would be a good backup. Thank you for the feedback on Bangkok.

It's only you who has stated 3GB.

800 baht per month for something that you may not use at all? You can get 45+ GB of 4G data from AIS with that...when you want it.

At 3Mbps/375 kB/s, you won't be burning through any kind of data in "a very short time". That's perhaps 50 mins per GB at full speed ahead. So perhaps three hours to pull down a movie in decent quality from your server.

With AIS, I can do the same at say 20Mbps/2.5 MB/s. So the same thing in less than half an hour, as opposed to 3 hours.

The TOT package is good if you actually use it, optimally. In other words, downloading/uploading at full speed constantly. If you are downloading 20 GB over each twenty four hour period for a few days per month, you are making good use of it. If utilising considerably over 50GB every month, again perhaps.

If for occasional use under those parameters, it's a waste of money and prepaid is better.

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you, just that you asked how a prepaid option would be a back up. I get what you mean.

As for the rest, I agree with you. I was unaware that AIS has a 45gb prepaid package for 800THB though. Am I missing this? I have postpaid with AIS and pay 488THB for 10gb.
