Pinkish red fluid AC unit fluid

Featured Replies

Anyone know what this pink stuff coming out of my ac unit is? It just started a few days ago. It's coming from where the condensation water is coming from. Should I be concerned if I have a dog? Thanks

If it's not water and rust you should get it fixed /serviced

And don't let the dog drink it anyway in case it is a coolant

Shouldn't cost too much to fix an ac in Thai

It's probably just rusty water, split type aircons don't contain any coolant that is liquid at atmospheric pressure / temperature so any leaks flash off very rapidly.

But it wouldn't hurt to get the unit cleaned and serviced anyway.

Compressor oil.

Possibly, but a leak bad enough to be visible at the condensation drain would have exhausted the refrigerant long ago, I'm assuming the unit is still cooling as our OP didn't say it's stopped.

Milky substance oil mixed with water close to condensate drain, pink color compressor oil, most likely a really slow leaking seal in compressor that has built up over time and now draining.

If its oil it means you have a gas leak which also contains oil to lubricate the compressor.Get it service as loss of gas will reduce efficiency and loss of oil may damage the compressor.

AC compressors are hermetic so it cannot be a seal. The pink/reddish colour is not a refrigerant oil, nor would it mix with water. Even if it was oil and somehow obtained a contaminant to make it appear pink, the oil would escape in a fine mist, not a gradual drain or drip into the outdoor condensate base.

If the unit is still working, it is more likely to be from an external source. For condensate to occur on the outddor unit, I assume you are from a colder part of Thailand and the unit is reverse cycle or it is condensate on an uninsulated section of the gas line or the insulation has broken away.?

Has anyone or your neighbours been cutting red bricks or tiles where the dust has accumulated in the outdoor condenser or grinding rust off old steel or the casing has started to rust because it is similar in colour to iron oxide ?
