Critics greet Abhisit's charter snub with skepticism

BANGKOK — Opponents of the draft charter reacted harshly to Wednesday’s snubbing of the proposed constitution by none other than Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva.

A day after Abhisit, a former prime minister, announced he would vote to reject the charter, critics faulted him as either an unabashed supporter of ongoing military rule, or worse, a shill trying to save face and prepare a “soft-landing” for the junta should a majority of the electorate agree with him.

Abhisit made his decision after knowing where this is all going. He's known what's in the charter since or even before it came out in March. He seems to be used by the generals as their backup so that when it all crashes down they can say he was somehow not with them.

Rejected the charter but wants the unelected illegal government and its boss to take lead in the drafting.

He has always been jelly back. Never been elected and hangs onto the shirt tails of the military hoping for an appointment in the juntas brave new world?

Notwithstanding ones apparent insight into the workings of the Democrat Party, the poster seems to be privy also to Abhisit's innermost thoughts. A truly remarkable combination.

The stuttering parrot's first sentence is a statement of fact. His second sentence is a derogatory (but widely held) opinion of Abhisit. His last sentence is speculation (that's why it has a question mark at the end of it). xineohp's attempt at a withering put-down: complete fail  .

Would be something of a shocker if the charter is given a yes having been rejected by just about everyone except the ptb.

But TIT under military rule.

Really, with total control, no free debate and no outside observers? I mean how can this not be free and fair and how can it not be a 80% turnout w8th a 90% yes vote.

MOst Thai's I know are going to go with a Yes vote as they see this as a way to move forward and away from the confrontation of the past. I read the entire draft proposal and it is an interesting read. Give it a try and you can understand where the Junta is going with it and why some of the politicians may not want it.

Like Thaidream, most people I know (who are eligible to vote) intend to vote "Yes" to the question of accepting the draft Constitution, even though none of them claim they have read it.

It's a pity they haven't bother to, especially Chapter 2, and Section 279!

I hope they also realise that voting "Yes" to the second question will cause a delay to their 6-4-6-4 model, as their brand-new Constitution will have to be amended to cater for how the "next" PM is elected!

What a nonsense news story. The Right Honorable man can't win if he does and can't win if he doesn't.

He disagrees and the critics react with skepticism. Imagine the critics reactions had he agreed with the charter!

Khaosad English would be all over that one with the news title reading "Ahbisit in cahoots with the military"

Next.

Critic's without any brains, even blind Freddy can see that the referendum for the Charter is a vote for continuing Junta rule, forever , Abhisit can see like the rest of us that to vote yes is a vote to place Thailand back 30 years or more , the Junta my still go ahead with self appointed Senate members with the three defence heads plus the defence secretary as permanent heads of Government , at least Abhisit can say that he never agreed with the referendum when the sh!!t hits the fan and or the students ( People ) are back on the streets....................................................................coffee1.gif .
